Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Why Ciscoer need to have confidence

Former Cisco COO had an illusion that TAC was low-tech hands-on guys thus they are low, while a junior software engineer who even don't have other skills but because they know a little bit software and programming, thus they are high.

Nothing could be more ridiculous than this idea. With the coming AI, it is so easy to replace those entry level software engineers, thus we can see the layoff rate for software engineers are above 20%.

But if you have really done your job in Cisco and know the theory and got enough hands-on experiences in networking. Then even AI won't be able to replace you! This is like God's will!

Good Cisco employees, you are blessed!

@2xot+1rl2ZJHZ It can, but I’ve found it’s pretty lousy at it. Why? Because there just isn’t that much out there to train it. Try asking Chat-GPT questions about how to set up routing policies on BGP on a given platform to do something an engineer can do with their eyes closed. You’ll see what I mean. Networks will likely have to get much simpler without the “nerd knobs” for GAI to take it over. Even then, it might sc--w things up so badly you have to roll a truck to recover. How many of us have “shutdown” the interface we’re currently using? You only did it once, right? You probably learned about “reload in” and “ commit confirmed” after that. AI has a long way to go. I hope I’m retired when we get there. It’s not today.

AI still thinks some people have three arms. I don't want to imagine what the equivalent is with all the networking devices in the world and all the business dependent upon them.

AI can do networking too, unless you're talking about physical cabling or connecting.
