Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

All of the senior execs, yes all of them, read this blog. I would also venture to say most probably post comments here regularly. So, I ask, how do you think they justify in their minds that their incessant disregard and firing of people is a legitimate and natural response to THEIR fu-k ups? How do they look at members of their family with any credibility and talk about owning and taking responsibility for their actions? Just goes to show you what people are capable of for the almighty buck.

Karma's a bi--h - it will undoubtedly come on them.

They are sociopaths who use terms like "business conditions" to justify their own bad decisions. They only live by two rules: (1) Get rich, (2) Stay in power.

Personally, I admit to one character flaw: When I hear of a bad thing happening to a level 3+, it is pure schadenfreude. I'm not proud of that but it is true.

My experience with level 3+ managers at this company consists of people who only graduated from HS or who went to some third-rate college taking fluff courses and who know somebody else with the same background or are a minority hire.

Very few 3+ managers at this place graduated from a flagship campus with a technical degree. Compare AT&T against Tech, Pharma, Consulting, or most Fortune 500 companies. How many 3+ from this company get hired from the outside on a promotion? Very, very few!

The company gets rid of people that they do not need. Don't want to keep people around if there isn't any work for them. It's called running a business.

Exactly…how many dedicated skilled engineers with years of experience did we lose to finance Stankeys $20M a year salary?

How many hundreds/thousands of families lives were upended to fund over-paid executives salaries and benefits packages that they didn’t earn?

How many millions/billions will we waste paying upper managers who aren’t performing or doing their jobs at the cost of skilled engineers who actually keep the company running.

It's been said that AT&T tends to be a little top heavy.....

If these people had any compassion or conscience, they would have voluntarily returned their bonuses, agreed to cut their salaries until stock price gets back above $25, or resigned after crashing the company so hard. Since the rubber stamp BOD won’t do its job, there are ZERO conseqepuences to them. Instead, they double down and continue to insist that the worker bees are the problem (far too many of us and how dare employees of a telecom use telecom services to work together instead of commuting to a building where no team members are). Wondering about their families or “how can they do these things” is pointless — in order to get to AVP or higher, one must have equal portions of psychopathy, arrogance, entitlement, and skills in flattery. It’s not what they know or do, because everything they say and do is opposite of what should be, but they will never hear any of it; truth is not allowed above Level 3, and they will NEVER care about you, your family, or anything not personally relevant to their lives and golden parachutes.

The primary goal of the AT&T board of directors and executives is to "Increase value to the shareholder!". Nothing more. The voices, comments, and social media posts of AT&T employees are nothing but buzzing noise in the background. Employees are nothing but an expense, not an asset, to the corporation that needs to be reduced. The VPs will do whatever they are told as they want to keep their high paying jobs.

AT&T has a group of employees, maybe contractors now, that do nothing but read social media posts about AT&T. The executives would not waste their time reading social media.

They don’t listen because it isn’t in their best interest to listen.
Currently, the goals of the executive team (raise stock price in the short term to please investors) isn’t aligned with what employees want (long term job security and better wages/benefits).

There has been this misalignment in objectives for some time now across many companies, short term growth to meet metrics is all companies care about now, not long term sustainability & growth. It’s all about the share price, vs building a strong lasting company, and these two are often not in alignment. What’s good short term, is often not what is sustainable or good long term.

The level of layoffs we’ve had combined with RTO isn’t sustainable, I see many teams just shutting down, many projects being abandoned, many fellow employees getting burnt out - not sustainable.
But due to the cut employees on paper the company looks to be doing better, making the share holders happy but in the long term the company will pay for it.

Do they really read it though? Do they look at Blind?

Cognitive dissonance is a he-l of a thing, the kind of people who end up at these levels tend to be the same kind of people who will push forward with their plans despite contradictory data.
They will just tell themselves “the people posting are just the disgruntled employees, we don’t need them anyway - we only care about the happy people in Dallas, everyone else is replaceable”
They don’t really care about morale, or projects failing, or much of anything else as long as they can achieve their bottom line and they will ignore contradictory data until it’s too late (Look at DTV, WBD, etc, the hiring of McKinsey even after the continued fumbles they’ve had).

These kinds of people fail upwards, and when they do fail due to their own mistakes, they will blame someone else and construct a narrative as to why their genius plan didn’t work.
“It was the employees fault.
It was the market.
It was Wall Street not recognizing our value.
It was the government.
It was Biden
It was the past executive management team”
Etc.

They don’t take blame, they spin the truth.

Just like Ward said in his last town hall:
“I don’t care what the data says, I know what’s right”

That’s the motto they live by, and if things don’t go their way, it’s someone else’s fault and they push forward with bad decision after bad decision. Sometimes it works out for them, and they hit a big pay day, sometimes it doesn’t and they leave a path of destruction in their wake.

So they may ‘read’ this blog, but they don’t ’listen’
