It’s a lot easier to manipulate and coerce new lower-paid employees and detached third-world contractors than it is to risk being exposed by experienced employees who know regulations and are confident enough to speak up.

That's EXACTLY what is going on.
There was a guy on my team that left quickly after digging into some iffy stuff. This place is very dirty for those that know how and where to look
I believe your missing the whole point.
Why give a sh-t about a company that doesn't give a sh-t about you?
It's true that newbies don't know what they are missing and are therefore easier to deal with when you're destroying a company but it's really all about cutting costs and Sharts irrational hatred of employees that have been here longer than him.
