Layoffs before SE contract expires in August?

What is everyone’s thoughts on core layoffs? The MOA for outside tech layoffs is supposed to be up in June but there has been req’s for some titles. Mainly Wire Techs, DT’s in Special Services and a few Construction FT/OPT Techs. There are also Term techs still working so, no layoffs in those titles until the terms techs are gone.

There are items that need negotiated for the new contract, I feel we may need to walk longer than the last time in 2019 if the company is obstinate. I’m ready, been saving up. Will be nice to have a break in the heat of summer!

Dwindling clerical employees every year, either age out or surplussed. A lot has to do with the big reduction in area managers. In my state there is only 2 area managers left, for all the CO’s, they also have the DEG DT’s.

There aren’t a lot of clerical folks left on the SE contract are there? Does anyone have any layoff info for them? Most comment are about the techs which I understand are the majority of the folks under the contract. Thanks for any info.

Sam cr-p the UAW just pulled. The ULP and guerrilla strikes are the wave of the future for unions. Large, all-in strikes hurt the union as much as the company because the majority of members are horrendously overpaid and live beyond their means. The CWA strike fund for each region would be obliterated if an all-in strike carried on past 30 or more days.

Who cares really.

The Union will not allow a real strike to happen. The National President gives Districts certain parameters that must be attained before a strike is called. These parameters are always impossible to meet by every single local in those districts.
Also remember, that a few conventions ago, the National Union made a change to our strike fund. They were running out of money and decided to take from this pot. So instead of the strike fund growing, they placed a cap on it.
The Union will do everything possible to prevent a strike, even if the memberships vote is 100% to strike.
Our National Union is a gravy train for baby boomers that should have retired 10 years ago.

We would all like a unified contract but it’s a result of the break up into separate baby bells back in the 1983 when Judge Green ruled Ma Bell was a monopoly and then broken up. The Union could get everyone back on the same contract with adjusting contract expirations but that takes heavy lifting. Each contract has different language and articles so that’s another issue. At least this year the West and SE are both expiring in the same year.

They have already slimmed down the SE outside forces and CO techs through years of surpluses and attrition. Construction is reduced, I&M are skeleton crews, no turfs and covering much larger areas. Lucky if an ET can help us out on the same day when, we put in a pair change because they are so spread out. Each small CO use to be manned by at least one ET and Frame Attendant. Many (medium to large) in larger cities and towns had as many 15-20 ET and several Frame Attendants at one office. Now it’s a ghost town in most, with one ET running around trying to keep up with multiple offices. Only the DT and Wire Tech crews still have a decent amount of techs left in comparison to their historical numbers.

Maybe the West will get as excited about the contract as San Fan is about doing away with law enforcement and having a sanctuary city. Cali is known for activism maybe, they can get the Hollywood actors and writers guild on their side to help.

“in Unity”……it has such a “thoughts & prayers” vibe to it. Don’t get me wrong, thoughts & prayers are proper, fitting, & great, but jumping in & helping can accomplish so much more. Instead of just saying “In Unity”, if we actually had a unified contract date, we could accomplish so much more. Maybe one day our U management team will get on board and actually unify their union.

In Unity with our West members who are in negotiations right now, you may have to walk but it’s not the end. The company will have so much pressure from outside forces to bargain in good faith that they will capitulate to something reasonable. Keep pressure on your bargaining team to walk away from the table if all the company wants to do is take away benefits. Bring the media and local politicians into the fight if the company won’t be reasonable. We need good jobs with benefits for our families and communities here in the US, not overseas to enrich a few elite and their stock market masters.

Everyone understands if the union wins a fair contract without agreeing to regressive items, it helps all including, management. Stay Strong and in Unity!

Most will get a break except for Stankey and the execs. They will be getting a call from Washington and Trump about offering fair wages, keeping jobs in the US and to bargain in good faith. The managers will have their feet up watching training videos like last time so, they will also get a break. It will get very interesting if they have to actually work, foresee more outages and customer complaints.

Wonder how many injury reports will happen, hopefully no one gets hurt bad. Remember last time they called off actual physical training because of some serious injuries. Then during negotiations the union went on strike, execs about crapped their pants when the work stoppage happened. Changed labor team, started bargaining in good faith and quickly came to an agreement. The tentative contract was ratified and signed in a short amount of time.
