Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs this week

Has there been more info about rumored layoffs? Or was that just more trolling?

I agree, plenty of slackers in the 4 levels of VP and exec ranks. Good try but you won’t convince me or anyone else that there were over +100k employees that suddenly needed fired. If so, that shows even more how inept leadership was to carry that many slackers. I mean, it had to be the worker bee that made all those bad decisions, how does the c-suite believe that, even in their bubble?

"Hard to believe that thousands of long term employees are the problem and deserve being fired or forced into making life changing decisions near retirement."

This is said as if all long term non-executives employees provide value and all executives don't. It's not that simple. Plenty of long term slackers way down the scale that make the company look bad. Also some very average workers that probably knew awhile ago that getting to retirement at this company is a gamble.

"Do you have a job outside the home?"

Not that it's any of your business but yes I do. I was a stay at home parent for 6 yrs, worked PT for many years and now work FT at a state university where I get great medical benefits and free tuition for my kids. I will be continuing to work for many more years for the medical benefits and the free college tuition but this layoff 100% throws a wrench into my husband's retirement plans. I love how people have so much to say about others financial situations.

Makes one wonder, what is wrong with company sycophants? They are always trying to deflect attention away from the real issue, leadership. Hard to believe that thousands of long term employees are the problem and deserve being fired or forced into making life changing decisions near retirement. Totally asinine!

Keep trying trolls maybe one day your vitriol towards the workers will get someone to believe you but I kinda doubt it.

“Instead now he has to start all over and most likely won't be able to retire at 55 now. Unless our financial guy can work some magic but I doubt it would be the same.”

Yep, we're sure. We got a financial advisor once the news broke last year and he checked all the pension stuff for us. If he made it to 30 yrs, he would have gotten a little over $700k, right now he'll get about $200k just shy of 23 yrs and if he had made it to 25 yrs it would have been almost $500k. He was grandfathered in under and old good pension that Ameritech had. I think that's what is stinging the most is that we feel we are being robbed. He could have been done at 30 yrs at 55, our house paid off and a good 401k too on top of the pension and we would have had some nice later years. Instead now he has to start all over and most likely won't be able to retire at 55 now. Unless our financial guy can work some magic but I doubt it would be the same.

@rqf+1roNqirE the numbers you're quoting don't line up with what I've seen. $300k less in pension for 5 more years? Are you sure?

My husband just got surplused after being told for the last 10 months that he had the option to move to Dallas or Atlanta. He's been remote for at least 10 or yrs now and came from Ameritech. He'll get his official letter in mid to late April and then will be off payroll 2 wks later. Will get 50% of salary severance package. Was told he can apply to other jobs in the company but all in TX or GA and no way are we moving. He's been there almost 23 yrs, our house is almost paid off, our parents are older and I work at a college and our kids get free tuition, no way are we moving anywhere. What su-ks the most is the pension $$ that he'll be losing. Like $500k less by leaving now as opposed to making it to 30 yrs. We had briefly entertained depending on what dates looked like for having to move for him to just go to TX on his own for a year or so to make it to 25 yrs which would have then been about $200k less than what he'd get at 30 yrs. What a freaking joke. Honestly I'm surprised he made it this long with all the layoffs and how close he's come over the years. My dad even got him the job at Ameritech back in 2001 and then my Dad got laid off the next year. I will say we'll definitely be leaving at&t for our cell/internet services now, without the discounts it won't be worth it when there are cheaper places with better service.

Last round was last week. Impacted teams saw 15-20% headcount reduction.

"Where are the WARN notices for these consistent layoffs?"

They seem to carefully avoid those by umbers and location

“ Between 50-100 employees are laid off each pay period”

Wrong, it’s more like 500 per pay period based on the three year run rate.

For management, the third full week of each month is a surplus week. And it’s always on the Thursday of that week.

Layoffs are ALWAYS happening at T!

T fails in producing revenue. T has to pay down the massive DEBT off somehow, layoffs it is!

The C-Suite definitely isn’t going to take a PAY-CUT! Because they would have to admit their SC--W UP (which they will NEVER do)!
