My Son-In-law just got layer off after 25 years and was within 6 months from retirement.
And no internal jobs are available.
ATT doesn't care at all about any employees.
SU-KS!

Layer offs stink.
You go company trolls, reveling in someone else’s misery, I’m sure your parents are so proud of you. As a person soweth so, shall the reap.
If management it means nothing but losing your job.
If he is management, in Texas, there are job openings. He just isn’t liked enough to get one of those jobs.
I have a feeling he told his father in law a s-b story, but was actually terminated for cause.
"...was within 6 months from retirement..."
Assuming he was non bargained/ management- "retirement" mean nothing anyway.
No big whoop.
He was 6 months from a retiree mobility discount of 30% that he wouldn't participate in anyway, once he realized he could get better and cheaper service almost anywhere else as a regular customer.
That's what he's missing out on.
At least you won’t have to keep packing a daily lunch and juice box for your son-in-law moving forward.
Most bargained aren’t aware of the .5% monthly pension deduction for not being modified rule 75 and short of 56 years of age. I believe this individual is non-bargained because March 15 would be the next announcement for bargained surpluses.
If bargained, he would be vested in the pension but it is penalized 1/2% for every month short 56 years of age and not retirement eligible. It would also affect his company healthcare, if he didn’t meet modified rule of 75. 30 years of service is the normal full retirement qualification.
Modified Rule of 75
Service Age
25 50
20 55
10 65
After 25 years of service, he’s vested and has a pension, so what’s the problem?
It is all part of the plan aka the big lie.
According to ERISA, an employer retains the right to terminate an employee for a valid reason, even when the employee is close to vesting.
However, the employer is not allowed to terminate the employee just to deny him or her retirement benefits
BellSouth and Cingular were both systematically destroyed by SBC id--ts. Everyone knew being acquired by SBC meant the death of your company. So the end is near. Cancer contagion.
I'm not as old but I want a handout too.
Was this really a surprise to your son-in-law? You should schedule a meeting with his manager.
no they don't and stank said himself they are too old.
