Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Promotion Track Broken

So, I have been with Verizon longer, in role longer, and have won deals in my accounts that other reps before me could not win, yet those before me have gotten promoted and I have not.

Others from outside the channel, outside the company even, move into the next role up and I get passed by.

Why interview internally ? Do I not have the track record? Do I not have the wins? Do I not have time in role? What's left? The rest of it is opinion. The rest of it is political.

Come on Verizon, fix this broken track. Whoever is most senior moves up first, whoever has longer time in role, whoever has hit the benchmarks along the way. Nothing should compromise that. A great way to say your efforts were worthless

I’ll never promote you because you’re doing too well in your role, you’re unexpendable and, because of your exceptional dedication, you make me look better and are the reason for my bonuses. Sorry pal, you’re going nowhere so long as I’m here and insecure. - Your Boss

Well if the original poster is White, Male & Straight... well there is your answer.
If the poster checks any DEI boxes & still not promoted... then maybe just unlikeable.

Who said anything about tenure not merit?

Clearly the OP is saying they have both tenure and merit but no promotion.

VZ culture bucks. The people who posted here are part of that culture. You're not like me, no promotion for you.

This is just a culture that recycles itself. The good ol boys club is all you have here.

Know wonder VZ is where it is. Move over!
Give fresh blood a chance.

A cat leader can't catch, A dog leader can't bark. Why does Verizon need people leaders who don't understand technology ? Anyone ?

Verizon ended up being a terrible company through exactly the policy you crave for. Promotion based on tenure not merit.

What you want is exactly what should not happen.

Everything on merit. Not a popularity contest/good old boys club.

Move over and get out of the way.

Big red no longer promotes, you have to apply for a new position. That's been the policy since 2017.

Looks like the OP was right, opinions or politics. You can see it in the responses below.

I agree.. if you put in the time and have the success you should be able to move into a leadership role. You developed through the years in the sales role, you would develop in the leadership role as well.

You are a victim of the Verizon culture my friend.. poor as always.

Best of luck to you!

Think about your roles you are what you’re applying for. People leaders are different from Sales Makers. If you are looking to get into a sales leader role then work on your people skills. Some of the best sales reps are horrible managers and full of themselves. I was in B2B, never a WC or Pres Cabinet winner, but was great with team and accounts. Also very consistent and hardly missed quota. I was willing to help. My favorite Mgr and Director were not the best in sales either but both were consistent and appreciated the responsibility and assertiveness. I went on to be a people leader for different Ops teams but had to take another individual contributor after B2B.

your managers are people manager, I'm sure your skill set if not "people".
Change your skillset to "People", then you'll be promoted.

The best sales reps don't make the best managers. Two entirely different skill sets.
