Report from Dallas - RTW

I had to move from Minnesota to Dallas for six months to get my pension. Here's a report from the front line.

I go in pretty early, like 7am. It is clear the floors are not cleaned overnight. There are crumbs and filth everywhere. I sat at a workstation, one of the few open ones without someone sitting at. It had one working monitor. The other one was hanging off its arm and couldn't be turned on.

I tried to wipe it down and encountered what was obviously a huge, gummy cola stain that stuck to the cloth I was using (it was the last wipe in the dispenser). Went to get a coffee - the only thing left in the kitchen drawer was decaf. The trash bin was overflowing with paper towels and there were co---m wrappers on the floor. I went down and waited almost 45 minutes for a Starbucks.

Restrooms are filthy. There was hardened, crusty fe--s on the wall of one stall, and toilet paper with fecal stains littered the floors. It seemed like the drain traps were dried out because sewer gas was escaping into the bathroom.

Loud, obnoxious salespeople were hollering all day into mobile phones set to speaker. Fake arz-kissers were walking around; one man across from me I swear did nothing all day but "talk shop" about golf, football, dove hunting, and lunch plans. Not a single word about work; not one. He would be on his mobile, and he'd lean back and put his hand down his pants and scratch his cr---h with pleasure.

I've always told myself that I could do anything for six months; this will be a challenge.

Some of you newer hires think there are no more employees who receive Pensions, you are wrong! Many of us who are almost MR75 can get a huge bump up in their Pension numbers by working a few more months. I have a coworker who has 24 years with the company and is 50 years old. He literally needs 4 Months to hit MR 75!

I can’t comment on the Dallas office condition.

Bullcr-p story. Anyone that is eligible for a pension is fully vested already. People and their wild imaginations just making up stories

The working conditions describe exactly the people that have been hired since year 2000. Something changed drastically around Y2K and all of a sudden what was being hired was not people. Maybe their age group was just never trained or taught how to act in public or in the workplace but it was just amazing to us that had been around a while the kind of animal behavior that was being hired and tolerated. This has continued and apparently there is no change in sight.

Oh, and it was not at all allowed for anyone to say anything to these things.

Yes, the conditions in the last 20 years have changed and not, repeat, NOT for the better.

Enjoy what your peers have brought to your table..........

As has been stated many times, every region or former baby bell has different retirement plans and conditions. It isn’t one size fits all, it also is different according to your hire date and the policies or contract at that time.

Moving for this company is like changing rooms on the titanic. Even though you just moved to a new room the ship is still sinking at an alarming rate.

Cool story bro…
For future stories, in the US, we say cell phone, not mobile like Europeans.

I don’t work in one of the two core hubs. My office building is like a palace. Fresh paint, beautiful stonework and old brass fixtures. Desks are new and the little coffee stains I leave on the desk daily as a test to the janitor staff are gone by the next morning. Plenty of coffee cups and neat little machines that make my cafe mochas. Huddle rooms for everyone. Great sandwich shops around us. I park in a gated garage for free and raindrops never hit my head. I’m a pathetic level 1 and love my workplace. But, they are shutting it down. I’m happy, and many others are, but leadership doesn’t care about my high workplace morale or your low workplace morale. When you realize that, then the pieces of understanding all fit into place. RTO to designations states away is a sham. There’s no positive culture on the other side of the rainbow, it’s a nightmare waiting for you.

Couldn’t make the move to the big D. Got surplussed, thankfully. New employer makes my laugh a little. They have soft pretzel day and birthdays day. I have my own desk. I have to be there every day, but it’s clean. It’s not the old MTSO with asbestos in the ceiling and lead in the water. The people are nice. They use the same software. They care about their work. They use their camera on MS Teams. Lots of smiles. I should have left AT&T sooner.

Why do some have to move? There’s L1s & 2s that had to move or leave and did but still LOTS of L3s & L4s working outside the 9 approved locations while their people are in approved location.

Who is allowing this?

It’s bad for morale. Check it out - go into webphone and look it up?

How is HR, Legal & others ok with this treatment?

Why would you move for this company? They will get rid of you one day before you get your pension. Anyone making decisions lacks a heart. It’s about the almighty dollar for all of them. And really think about it…level 4 and up should have more than enough money to walk and say this is not right but they won’t. Because you have to be a heartless brainless wimpy fu-k to get to that level. All about money. Not about being a human being. Disgusting!

I got news for ya. Unless you are in the same building as the Stink, the other buildings in Dallas haven't seen a good cleaning in years. I haven't seen a vacuum used in our building in at least 10 years. the chairs we sit in are so dirty that they've turned tan/brown. they used to be purple. in the beginning of RTO i walked into the nearest bathroom and there was a large amount of fe--s smeared on the wall, the floor and the toilet. it stayed like that for over 2 weeks. we have one janitor for a fairly large building and after she is done emptying trash cans, you can find her in the janitor closet sleeping on a chair.
