Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Location Strategy Exception

I am in a non-hub location. While the location strategy was announced, I was told my role was identified for an exception. However others in my city are being laid off. So…how long does this exception last? I cannot post for any other positions, as there are none in my city. My manager does not know if the exceptions are regularly reviewed. Anyone else get an exception?

FWIW, I do not want the exception. I did ask my manager to have the “re-evaluate” my exception and was told that they will not (I do believe my manager asked her manager).

If you want the severance now, file a complaint with HR and say that this is not equitable.

Consider your exception an opportunity to buy time. Look for something else unless you’re banking on severance

My only worry is that they tell you where you are going to go, then tell you, you have 6 months to get there and if you do not show up you abandoned your job and no severance!! They have ways of getting to you..... :(

all exceptions are temporary, they’re really just delays/pushing those individuals to the end of the process. They have to do with either a unique skill set, or a risk related issue that is too critical/delicate to disrupt (e.g. a RAU owner going through RCSA/post RCSA cycle). These location strategy displacement actions will extend throughout 2025, so if someone is spared in the initial wave, or subsequent waves due to the above, there will be clean up at the end.

if your job function is very niche, critical, or there are enough people in non hubs or remote that to get rid of them all there would be too much disruption then they will get exceptions for now

Correct. Exceptions just won’t be advertised.

There will always be exceptions, always.

You are no exception, that is what was communicated to me by HR. All non-hubs have to be in hubs, no special treatment. This is an enterprise strategy being executed at a macro level no individual case by case.

“How long does the exception last?”

Maximum validity period is the timeline defined to enact the overall location strategy. What I’ve seen is that carry’s into 2025. It may not end there and be extended, or your exception may become permanent or you may be let go earlier if they post and hire your position in one of your LOB’s in locations. I would say there is literally no answer. This is all a Wait And See exercise.

Yes, it will be revisited but not likely until next year. HR has a fixed volume of displacements it can process a month and it will likely take 2-3 years to deal with everyone targeted by efficiency or location strategy. Your exception just means you will be in a later wave but they will eventually get to you.

Will you share what business line you are in?

I am remote at a non-hub location. Was told by my mgr that I have an “exception” due to the nature of my job. He said I should be safe until Feb 2025. We’ll see…

This exception stuff is BS. So basically your job (or you) are important enough for now. WOW

So they need you to do the work and want to string you along until they are ready to let you go. Time TBD by WF.

What a cr-p move, WF.

I am in a non hub and remote within COO and haven’t been told anything about the future of my position, yet. I assume my days are coming to an end quite soon, which works for me.

I also got an “exception”. I am in a specialty market, so time will tell.

Hold out for severance if you can. You’ll likely be displaced at some point, but no way to really know when.
