Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I'm in Technology

I'm in Technology and my manager pinged me today to discuss my future here at Wells. I was told either next month or the latest in May I will be displaced due to me remote and not near any of the hubs. I'm kinda surprised that I got a heads up since many on my team last year did not get a warning until that Tuesday morning. Manager was told by HR that this must be done by end of today. Must be a new policy in place.

It's transparent alright, transparently BS. It's a layoff strategy and nothing more, just like everything that Shart does. He's a failed leader and a habitual liar. FHY.

99% of remote workers will be displaced. Not sure why this has to be repeated. The company has been very transparent about this. The only surprise for most will be the exact timing.

Better than me, my boss has alluded to some of my team mates, but not me directly that I am probably being displaced because of location. Weird team dynamic now, a blend of persona non grata and so sorry.

Yeah, in a very large majority of cases in other LOBs there are no options to relo because the entire purpose is to lay you off, not to retain you in a different city. A person has to have very specific and necessary skills to even get such an offer and believe me, it annoys our corporate overlords to no end to be that dependant on you. They'll get a contractor or guy in India to do the job as soon as they possibly can.

“It's for the people they want to give options to. Not everyone gets an option. Not sure how they determine though.”

This is the right answer, approach to using this is different by LOB/Function as well. Some don’t use it at all.

@1clt+1ry7eRNM Just don't do it until after the 60 day period. Once on severance , you should be good.

Just get a second remote job and stay for thr severance.

It's just another ploy to get you to quit on your own if possible. Avoiding severance is awarded in our group. I got the biggest raise out of my peer managers (I think because they all complained about theirs) due to my choice vs layoff departure ratio was 7 to 1.

Remember that relocation and reduction in force are two different initiatives going on. The Tuesday morning massacres are still going to happen and you wouldn’t get notice till time to be cut. People offered relocation as part of that initiative are given a heads up to make their decision, I assume those not offered relocation are at least partly being lumped in with RIF.

FHY. The only thing that would ever be surprising at this company is leadership doing the right thing. They only have one strategy and they lie about it constantly.

Wow! So you’re in Tech and this was a surprise to you? The months and months of meetings, emails and townhalls that laid all this out didn’t clue you in?

This total lack of self awareness is half the problem with Tech at wells in general. And the inability to discern a standard lay off with this process that is part of the Location Strategy as previously noted is astounding. WARN. lol.

No wonder Wells Tech is and has been doomed for years. You probably spearheaded Agile and Ansible didn’t you?

60 days non-working are for the WARN Act. Informally telling someone that they are going to be displaced is not WARN Act notice.

And I’m not going to an anonymous Google docs site and get my Google credentials harvested.

Finally, a helpful comment. Perhaps they may be "informing" these employees being laid off to prevent having to report to WARN. Not fully sure. Regardless, the data never lies.

It's part of location strategy. If you're not in a hub city, then they're going to tell people to move or they'll get laid off anyway. So just start making plans and take your severance.

Interesting….as one in tech that didn’t get a heads up I was surprised at my displacement call….guess now you’ve got plenty of time to get all of your the documents you want to keep.
