Thread regarding IBM layoffs

US-IBM labor force- Have you had enough?

8 years ago IBM's US union organizing ended - largely due to a lack of interest. At the height they had a paltry 400 dues paying members. As tech workers we seemed to feel we were all powerful- able to dictate our terms as we flitted from company to company.
Now it's 2024- from RTO mandates to our CEO boasting of job replacement by AI - have we learned our lesson? Or will it take several more rounds of RAs?

IBM has been cutting heads and cooking the books for so long that they don't know how to do anything else. They've stopped the 401k match...who knows how long they have until the direct deposits stop appearing.

As a recent receipt of an RA notice working in the Manager Services Delivery unit, it is perfectly clear that IBM is making cuts based on geo only. There is no concern of the actual talent, skills, or knowledge of the people that are being cut and direct managers are not even involved in the decision making. This has happened since our until was moved from Software to IBM Consulting. I lost my best employee last year due to these cuts. The funny thing, is that when I was hired 10 years ago, it was because clients were leaving IBM due to lack of US support because they had tried this before. So good luck to them and I will not be seeking any other positions in IBM since it is such a hostile work environment for US people.

Go to ibm.com/careers/search. At this very minute, there are 2733 jobs in India, 468 in Japan (which has great talent but is expensive) and it doesn't matter where the rest are because they are a pittance compared to India.

“ There are documented internal goals to significantly reduce American workers in 2024. ”

Were you expecting us to have an international market with US only workers?
As countries start demanding more jobs for access to their markets, things will get worse.

You guys are nuts. The day IBMers unionize is the day IBM files for bankruptcy to get out of it. IBM FCF goes almost entirely to debt service and dividends, and whatever is left over gets paid out to execs. The only money us peons see (GDP & ESP) gets funded by RA attrition.

Count me in!!!!! Along with all of RTP, POK and Austin. The off-shoring is a slap in the face for employees everywhere. Don't give IBM tax breaks! IBM is self described as an international company refusing to state employee numbers at any of these sites or in the US at large. Why all the secrecy? Is IBM proud of its heritage, US employees and customers anymore?

The American worker at IBM will be a thing of the past. There are documented internal goals to significantly reduce American workers in 2024. Write your congress person to make them aware and lobby to prevent IBM from receiving US government contracts.
