Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

VTP June 14th

If offered, would you take it? Up for yes, down for no. If no, how many more years would you stay if it's totally your choice?

This discussion is not about 5 + 5 dreams because that's not going to happen. Here we're talking about the VTP (Voluntary Termination Package) in the CWA/Leg T contract, which comes into play if and when the company announces a surplus. It's good in that it offers higher seniority workers the option to leave rather than low seniority workers being laid off.

Is this the 5-5-1 offer?

Some of those with jobs that are not union naturally disagree with the nice termination payouts that union workers get.

I’m bargained so they will have to abide by the contractual rules and make an offer if they want me to leave early otherwise, another 5-10 years or 1 more contract.

Ha, you guys do realize that anyone hired in the past 10 years does not have a pension right? So this is only impacting the most senior folks, it ain’t going to happen btw and most of you will get forced out in the next year or two. They will just rebadge you, take it or leave it, take it and you’ll get about 12 months left to work if you make it that long, with no severance required. Dont take it and no severance because you quit. Seen it happen to several groups already. Thats what’s coming next. My advice to you all, retire by the end of this year or you might not have anything.

June 14th is the next surplus announcement date per our CWA/Leg T contract. The OP has no inside info of course, just dreams.

I'd take it. I'm planning on retiring later this year anyway. I had hoped for a layoff, but a VTP works too.

OP - Is there a rumor about June 14th or is that you throwing a date out there for discussion?

Why would I leave. 7 hour days. Watching movies on my phone. Two days at home. It’s paradise.

In a heartbeat without even thinking about it! This company is so F'd up, most people have not idea, but if you're working on the front lines face to face with customers, you get the real sense of how the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing!

Our company has always been progressive compared to other companies but even so, due to past hiring practices, the highest seniority workers are typically white folk so another advantage for the company to offer VTP is that it results in a big change in racial demographics which is very important to the company. When VTP is offered, it is given out by seniority, and so VTP ultimately gets rid of older white folks. So VTP really is a win/win/win deal for many reasons.

Getting VTP/SIPP is definitely an incentive for senior employees to leave early. It’s a win/win for the company and the employee. I’ll be ready in about 6 yrs for it, others in my group are ready for it now, just waiting for the offer.

I'm never leaving. I basically get paid to do nothing.

I would take it for sure but if not offered, I'll work another 5 to 7 years at least. VTP is good for everyone because it gives the incentive to older workers like me to retire rather than younger workers with lower seniority getting laid off .

Now, likely no. I've made MR 75. Kid in college, ailing spouse, need the health care.

In 4-5 years, he-l yah!

Depending on the package offered, if like the one in 2020 D3, VTP/SIPP plus 50k bonus then possibly otherwise staying another 6-10 years depending on health, company and the markets.

No I’ve only been here 5 years. Got a LONG career ahead of me as long as they keep not hiring and our sh*t management keeps chasing people away every year, I think I’ll be safe for a while hahaha.
