Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Stock taking a nose dive

Any chance AT&T can pull it together, so we stop losing money?

No, we are laying off and selling assets, on our way to profitability, ask Stankey.

Look at where At&t generates it's revenue and you will have your answer. At&t revenue is generated by wireline, wireless, and broadband. Wireline usage is falling and expensive to maintain. Competition in wireless and broadband is high and expensive to expand. Unless At&t develops a new source of revenue the stock will never go up.

You’re kidding! It would take a complete purge of ALL SBC L3 and above throughout entire company before there’s ANY chance of recovery. Probably too late with so much BellSouth and Cingular talent already fired by SBC!

“I am so glad and lucky I was laid off in 2018 and I was able to retire under the 75 rule to collect a pension at 55 years old. I was scared of my future without a job. My 401k was mostly all ATT stock and sold all of them for just over $27 a share and I came out with around $500,000 now 7 years later it grew to $1,500,000. Now between ATT pension, Social Security and dividends I make over $10,000 a month and my brokerage accounts keeps growing. Funny thing is I would have kept all my ATT stock and lost so much money if it wasn't for the layoff. Show ATT no loyalty because they have none for you!!”

This.
100%
Sell it, all of it.
Buy something worth holding that will actually grow.
The money from that stock put into something that actually goes up can make you rich.

On May 1, 1999 the stock was $43.15 (down from $48 during the Ameritech days). Today it closed at $16.31. That's down approximately 62.2%. Way to go! Buy it if you want 6+% dividend, but not for growth.

I unload the ATT shares fund as fast as it hits my 401k. The problem for the stock price is that this is an infrastructure company in a mature space, plus the times when it has tried to go into new spaces, it has been a disaster.

Without a completely new product/service that rivals the rise of cellphones and then smartphones, what we are now is what we will be for the foreseeable future. I doubt VR headsets will be the next big thing, at least not for a number of years.

I also don’t think T will be bought by some private equity firm like some failing restaurant chain, and I am not sure the govt would allow it to happen, but anything’s possible.

Too late! Maybe an acquisition target someday. Destroyed by RJS debt and SBC “leadership”.

T, and the world as we know it, shall soon end.

Nah, the only thing that'll happen is T gets bought out by private equity and gets its workforce slashed by 90%. The remaining 10% will keep the lights on.

Wireline phone is pretty much done; nobody wants to deal with copper or the union. Fiber is up in the air, but will likely be sold off as well. In-person stores will shutter and majority of the business will move to online sales only, similar to how Mint (T-Mobile subsidiary) currently operates. Support will be moved to India in its entirety.

Finally, what I suspect will happen is the private equity company will maximize revenue by squeezing existing partnerships with companies like Tesla and Amazon Ring - which rely on AT&T for service. Those expenses will be offloaded to Tesla and Ring customers, who will see their monthly bills skyrocket.

That's essentially what you can expect in the next 10 years.

If you look at the big picture, the answer is no. AT&T stock flatlined in 2015 and has been on a steady decline since.

I sell mine everytime I get granted any.
Glad I sold in the $17’s this time.
But yes, the market as a whole is doing poorly the past few weeks - but this is after a massive rally that T didn’t really capitalize on so it’s been basically flat for many months.

No, I don’t see the stock doing any better for the foreseeable future. The company is making decisions to try and raise stock price in the short term but will hurt company performance in the long term. I don’t think there’s any real direction atm except cutting their way to success and investors know this.
The risk appetite of the company is small due to the past failures, so new revenue streams are non-existent. Fiber to under or under-serviced areas is promising but requires serious investment and time to start showing returns.
The only real ‘solution’ the c-suite can come up with is to try to do more with less, which means cuts but they’re incompetence knows no bounds and the way they’re implementing them cuts talent that has kept the company running for years (ignoring performance and focusing on geography) and they’re taking a hatchet to a problem that requires a scalpel.

They’re going to be left with only talent that happens to be in the right location, not the best talent, and a lot of disgruntled employees who refuse to implement their version of ‘collaboration’ and still take all their calls on teams.

It’s basically a total cluster.

You're aware the entire market is way down right, or?

Never mind.

That is a BIG NO from T!

T stock hasn’t even hit $20 since 2 years ago!

It’s best to not even look at ALL.
