Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

In the end, it was always Costco.

Got laid off because I couldn’t report to South Akard. T needed me to prove to the tax man in DFW that they holding up our side of the bargain. DFW gives at a $25M tax cut, in return T makes employees go to South Akard. Only one problem. I live in Vegas. BTW: No Costco in downtown DFW… just saying.

“Except there are many who were hired and WFH from day one of employment and are now being required to move out of state to an office for no reason.”
The reason is that requirements for your position have been changed by T. This could have happened at any time.

RTO people.

I’m a union tech and I’ve been forced to relocate 5 times in my career(so far) just to keep my job.

That stinks.

I've relocated twice due to surplus and I'm finding it impossible to AUTS back to my original town. Just give me ESB or VSB and I'll move back on my own now that I'm in F.I.R.E mode.

"unless I move to a state that continues to take away rights" - and what rights are they taking away? Please be specific.

“Why are you WFH? There is no COVID. Go back to normal. RTO people.”

You sound like you have a very punchable face.

RTO has always been a misnomer. It’s about Returning to Work for many. Not the office.

I was FTW long before covid as were most of my colleagues. My job didn’t change at all during covid. We now have to sit in a building and I kid you not, I speak to no one every day. There is no one here for me to collaborate with. Everyone I deal with is scattered across the country as we are a regional team, even if I was in Dallas I’d speak with nobody. But I drive in, swipe the badge, sit here all day on teams calls, just so my boss (who is in another state with no one from his team) doesn’t get a bad office attendance report.

“I am glad I told my boss I would not move to Dallas. I suspect that is the primary reason why I was surplussed last year.”
The orimary reason is that you weren’t odentified as a top performer and your boss ranked you low in the priority order.

I went to Dallas one year for CP training. A classmate asked the instructor where you go out at night in Dallas for entertainment. He said you don't go out at night in Dallas and that you do not want to be out anywhere at night in Dallas. I can only speculate that the situation has become worse with the increasing homeless crisis and immigration crisis. I am glad I told my boss I would not move to Dallas. I suspect that is the primary reason why I was surplussed last year. I do not regret my decision.

I’m a union tech and I’ve been forced to relocate 5 times in my career(so far) just to keep my job. Only got relo pay once, and all the other traveling has been done on my own dime. I don’t work in an office and almost never visit my reporting location as I dispatch from home.

I completely empathize with all the people going through this RTO nonsense and easily see it’s being done for no other reason than to get people to quit and receive back door tax kickbacks from the government for “revitalize “ downtown areas.

Being forced to move for a job affects your family, livelihood and ultimately ki-ls your soul working for this terrible company, which is exactly what T wants. It’s tough when you show loyalty to a company and finally come to the realization of how much they never have or will care about you or anyone else at this company.

To all the Union guys downvoting the office workers concerns: imagine getting told you have to all move to another state to keep your jobs. No relo, no raise, no guarantee you’ll keep your job when you go - how would you feel? I bet you guys would be striking like he-l. Most of us support you guys, please support us as well.

RTO has been terrible. I was told before I was hired that the culture and rules were changing so you did not need to relocate to Dallas in order to have career advancement, and with RTO, it has completely backslid. With pitiful 2% raises and no hope for career advancement unless I move to a state that continues to take away rights, it makes me worry about my future here.
