External Job Openings - Many Are Getting Filled In Less Than 2 Days

Lately I have noticed that many new external job openings are getting closed in less than 2 days. For example, I get new job opening notifications every night from LinkedIn, Indeed, or other sources. I thought I would apply to a few of them after my work is done for the day. But by the time I check back, they are already gone. LinkedIn said the company already received more than 100 applications. I mean, a lot of companies are doing the same thing. This is a trend I did not see years ago. What's up with that?

A job offer from WF is like a marriage proposal from Henry VIII.

The job isn't "filled", the posting is removed once a sufficient number of applications is received (40), or 7 days, whichever comes first.

Wells puts the listings up, they get tons of applications. Some applications that meet qualifications and some that don't. Listing goes down.
People who are qualified find out about the bs (i.e. lowball offer, RTO with team not in same location, expensive parking, manager attitude, etc) and opt out.
Wells whittles down their list, realizes they need more applications, listing goes back up and is reposted continuously.

I see same position reposted by WF - this one is a Lead Mobile Product Manager in every 2 days or so and they bring it down. LinkedIn says 8 applicants each time it is reposted. What a game! I guess they just time it for their predetermined candidate and wait when they can say that “this” was our chosen one when not too many folks care to reapply. Anyways such a thankless position it is.

They're either closing the position b/c it was cancelled or they're getting way too many applicants so the stop taking applications.

This is happening because those looking for employment are not targeting “dream positions”. They are simply shotg-nning everything in hopes of landing something. This does nothing but hurt the qualified candidate, the employer and the seeker all at the same time. But hey, there is a reason they are in the position they are end so that cycle is un breakable.

It won’t change. You’ll just need to adjust your personal response time and hope for the best.

@1gya+1s0jArKQ there was nothing about "remote" mentioned on OP's post. I didn't know.

Job Armageddon, all these multinational corporations offshoring jobs, onset of artificial intelligence, inequity inclusion, non merit based programs, are destroying society and committing its own demise in the long term.

i'm a hiring manager here and I can tell you what's going on - every job opening is deluged with candidates and so after they get to a certain number the posting recruiter shuts it down. it's the same at most companies. My recruiters are always asking me if they can shut down postings after a day or two since we are already over 100 applicants. these are for high level individual contributor positions - P4 or P5 levels. the higher the level the more applicants.

That's because thousands of laid-off Wells Fargo employees are desperately looking for a new job. Of course, remote positions are very popular, nobody wants to go to the office three times a week.

I saw a new remote job opening from First Citizens Bank per LinkedIn job alert. But that job opening was quickly closed in less than 3 days. I was thinking of applying, but I guess I missed out the opportunity. LOL

I see this trend for remote jobs. I have been looking at new remote job openings every week, but many of them quickly disappear within a few days.

That is a weird trend you've been seeing. I just received an email from another bank's Job alerts. The same job openings are there from 2 weeks ago. I've been watching an alert for a Credit Union job that's been up for 8 days now. You might be in a region where people actually want to work. In the region I'm in, most people haven't wanted to work since Covid. That might explain why job openings stay on the alert board. There's some really great opportunities I want to apply for. I'm waiting for Shart to pay Me to leave. I will start applying two months after Shart pays me to leave. Do your thing Shart. Show me the door and the money. $$$$

This generally happens when someone has already been [unofficially] identified for the job- they open and close the req quickly.
