Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

New Call Center in Peru

Two call centers opened, one in Peru and the other one in El Salvador. This is recent.

I wonder if the D9 Bargaining Committee is going to fight so this work isn't transferred to lower paying titles?

Or is the game only Core tech work?

Just keep playing that Peruvian flute. It’s the only way to keep the giant Guinea pigs at bay. I saw it on a documentary.

Try working for Comcast, that doesn’t have a union and tell me how that is working out for you, even the managers are paid, way, way less.

Would you rather move to Peru or Dallas?

Simple answer, they don’t work for you, only want your money.

Be prepared for a ULP walk if the company continues an impasse and try’s to drag it out. Not long till D3 contract so, something will give before then. The company couldn’t afford 37,000 employees on strike at the same time.

Be sure of 3 things: Death/Taxes/and the CWA will sit on their hands and do nothing.

Sadly, no one really cares (willing to strike) until it potentially impacts ‘their’ job.

Sad, but true.

Because bargaining team is all techs, and they will be impacted. They want us to be upset because their work will be moved to lower paid techs.

If it hasn't been a reason to strike in the past, it's not a reason to now.

Let's be honest, most crews can do without half of the techs. We create overtime opportunities and maximize idling on every ticket we get.

Contracting our work out would save the company a ton of money. Not considering quality of course, just like foreign customer service. Pots and much of the copper plant work will likely be leaving, so this is also work of the past. These tech work should also be protected by the union.

The point I get from OP is, why is the bargaining all of a sudden hyper-focused on work transfer to lower paid employees now, when its been impacting other titles for years. Fair question.

How would the D9 bargaining committee fight this? Refused to work? Umm ok

It’s going via the way of the phone operators, frame attendants, pay phone collections, pagers, pony express riders, telegraph operators, etc..

Technology has replaced many jobs and skills that are labor intensive, not to say it’s always an improved experience because, nearly all would like a human for customer service and support. For companies it’s an expense so if their competition is doing it, they usually follow.

Call centers in the US are a dead-end job. They will all be outsourced to lower paying countries at first but then eventually they will be replaced by AI.
