Lately I've been hearing about individuals being approached by other teams without the individuals prompting interests into the department or sections that are approaching them. I had a WebEx message from a Ford recruiter asking how soon I could relocate across country. Is this normal? I've been at Ford for 6 years, which only 2 were prior to COVID & WFH. When I asked my people leader & management about this, they downplayed it, but others have said that they were "strongly advised to consider", one saying that it's a way to protect certain jobs & individuals from an upcoming re-org with Model-E needing to move higher seniority individuals around and back into BLUE. This may be just rumors. I'm afraid if I don't consider this move and take it, that I may be moved into an unfavorable area or let go. Has anyone else had this happen or know of this happening?

If u were aporoached by a recruiter without initiating, that generally means that team/department is going to be hit with layoffs, and they are trying to protect the good workers. Take the compliment, and go to another job quickly!
It used to happen all the time when I was there pre-SIRP. Way back in the better days, the departments had it organized and would 'rotate' employees into different roles. They said it was to keep the workforce well rounded.
Then, after SRD, they lost all that organization. It was never spoken about, but it was essentially on the shoulders of the employee to find their 'next' position before their current one timed out. If not, you would be pushed to wherever they needed someone.
And not to pile on to your stress levels, but a lot of people were 'rotated' to areas that were later decimated by layoffs in 2022. I now believe that they do that intentionally to get rid of people that they don't want - for whatever reason (not 'friends and family', high salary, pensions, etc.).
I doubt this is entirely true. Usually you are approached if you show interests. It doesn't just happen out of nowhere. Imo, You must have been seeking other opportunities.

Come on, you expect us to believe a recruiter is asking you to move across the country but you aren't aware of why that would be? You have to have some special skills if recruiters are actively chasing you to relocate. And if you have this skills, you should be self aware of you ability.
This is a troll question to try and start rumours. Let''s get this site back to layoff discussions.
It would help to inform of more detail on the potential benefits and or drawbacks if you could let us know if you are being asked to move from warm to cold or cold to warm?

Usually when someone approaches you it would be after consulting the PL. Like someone else mentioned, it could be a life raft which could save you if there are layoffs.
You should absolutely refuse to do this move. They are just testing your loyalty. If you take it, you will be added to the layoff list.
Take the job. Years ago I was asking to move to a differnet department. I was told that if I didn't take it, it was going to be offered to a co-worker. I decided to take it, which I'm glad I did. The co-worker was let go in the next layoff.
FYI, moving doesn't guarantee anything. A manager moved an employee into another team, trying to keep him in the company, but a few months after that, the employee was let go during the layoffs.
Sounds like you’re being offered a life raft and need to take it. What org/dept are you in?

Sounds like they’re trying to keep you but adjust for business needs. Like someone else said, you have to decide if you’d like to make the move. If not I’d start looking for something else because imo the writing is on the wall if you don’t accept the move.

Just from my past experience before layoff. I was in the similar situation before. Before major layoff, different departments in the company usually shuffle some employees. Moving some employees from one department to another without employee initiate it. Whether you want to take it or not is up to you.
