Verizon Ranked # 8 for Career Growth by LinkedIn

There is no doubt it is a great company. Like many other large companies, we go through challenging times. The key is if your current role is not a fit, is there another opportunity internally that is. I have been here 15 years and want to retire here someday.

Ok I had to look. It would appear linkedin did this on their own info. I don’t think VZ did the title change just to win some nonsense ranking but they ceetaimly didn’t do it for employees except to give them a step up in being able to leave.
“ Our methodology uses LinkedIn data to rank companies “
“ Ability to advance tracks employee promotions within a company and when they move to a new company, based on standardized job titles. “
Since VZ aligned titles to market they probably appeared as promotions when linkedin looked at linkedin data from all those 6Vs rushing out to update their resumes. One could say Verizon employees won the award for Verizon.

More fudged numbers and funny math. We only got that award because of the band 6 title changes. We failed to elaborate on how these ‘promotions’ came about and how there was no salary change or compensation

Best luck to all. Having been with VZ Wireless since 2009 after the Alltel acquisition, before that since the early 90's...this whole sector looks rough. Posting on the non wireless side as I was one of the managers that filled in during the 2016 strike. Even then I could see the wireline side was going to be rough going forward. Finally when most of my wireless dev team was getting outsourced took that 3 week a year sev package in 2019....loved working for VZ as I met a lot of great people on both sides of the house over the years, but with the sev, not eligible for rehire. Took a job with a financial giant a few years later, and now I get to deal with VZ Central Office personnel again...ordering circuits and managing billing. Again wish you all the best, but I saw the writing on the wall. On a side note, some of those COs like Hazelton, PA had a ton of old history in them. Hope the city does something with them one day...plus the view from the roof looking around town and the coal mines was priceless.

It all depends on the source of the data.

If linkedin used their vast data that employees voluntarily give them then last year would be a huge spike in job changes upward when in reality mostly nothing changed.

Career growth ranking, whatever the base number is (ex. 8 out of 10) should be multiplied by the number of employees today/Number of employees 5 years ago.

The irony is that one of the reasons we did the title adjustment is due to feedback of lack of promotional opportunities. It was a low cost way to 'promote'. I wonder if that factored into the rankings.

I have applied for many jobs internally at vz. Also have not been able to apply internally. I was promoted once but all that did was add responsibilities to the current role I already had. Verizon is 3 company’s. Former Bell. Former GTE. And Verizon wireless. It’s the truth. And it’s B S.

I understand the severance piece. I was part of it a few years ago. I was fortunate enough to find another role, but I realize that is not the case most of the time. The challenging part is finding "greener grass" somewhere else.

@uvf+1s4O4pGm Totally true. The self promotion never ends, meanwhile they continue to cut the technical people who solve the problems. They look more and more like their former Ma Bell parent! We always said ATT didnt need a network as long as they spent so heavily on marketing Lily in her tight sweater. Good luck to the OP - I retired after 30 plus yrs, all in sales. I used to be so proud to be a V’teamer but in the end the obstacles, BS and lack of integrity of Leadership made me walk 3 1/2 yrs short of 65. After I left, without a job but not really needing one, just the benefits, “A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum.” Many V’teamers who went to Magenta convinced me to give it a try. Corporate life is basically the same everywhere but I see less of that here and amazingly, a better Network to sell!

Tell that to the nearly 10k people that were forced out last year. .

“ To determine the ranking, LinkedIn rated each organization on several factors, including gender diversity, upskilling opportunities for employees and the frequency and speed at which employees are promoted”

Wondering how much the fake title promotions last year helped or using linkedin learning as a major source of training got us up on the list.

OMG I looked at the list total BA koolaid. “ How they promote employee connectivity: Verizon’s ‘Up to Speed’ employee news program features taped and live broadcasts that allow ‘V Teamers’ across the business to share updates and highlight their work.  ”
