Thread regarding IBM layoffs

"IBM have already announced job cuts related to AI."

meaningless nonsense, vaguely defined, go-to excuse.

This is just an observation of industry’s past actions and how IBM has adapted. It sure looks like IBM’s NA and Western Europes actions are following Meta’s 2022 and 2023 actions. Meta announced 2 trimmings (late 2022 and early 2023) totaling approx 25% of headcount saying “they were going to focus on efficiency” That action has doubled Metas stock price, and IBM now seems to have taken that action to heart and is even using the same language. It’s all about efficiency. If so, the cuts are most likely deeper than publicly announced as IBM’s mainframe strategy comes into focus.

IBM would be much better off trying to replace senior leadership with a Magic 8 ball lol

Yep, good job IBM PR. Instead of headlines of IBM off shoring to cheaper locations, IBM is seen as AI savvy.

Which looks better for IBM or any tech company as a news headline?
IBM has laid off x amount of people today.
OR
IBM has laid off x amount of people today because of AI.

It's basically an AD for IBM's watsonx. watsonx must be really great if IBM is replacing workers with it.
Of course, we all know that that this is complete b.s.
