Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Office swipes on Saturdays?

Can I go into the office on a Saturday and have it count as a day towards RTO if I am primarily a M-F employee?

Totally agree. Further… totally disgusted by supposed “coworkers” that show up and do the minimum… pushing more work to the busy people. I’d like to see forced rankings of coworkers BY EMPLOYEES and then kick them out by consensus. Oh yeah… the busy people ALL know who does the work and we should have a say.

You all think you’re so clever in blowing off work but you’re not shafting the Bank, you’re only shafting your coworkers. The Bank should solicit employees for input on firings.

What a bunch of petulant children who don’t want to come into the office to do their job.

Hypocrites. All of you.

In a fair world the Bank could and would claw back pay for the days that employees gamed the system and faked coming to work. But all that they can do is to displace these toxic employees without a package. That’s really sad and I hope that HR at the very least begins to disclose reasons for employee displacements.

Can’t run a company when employees undermine it day in and day out and prospective employers need to know the story.

The truth is, they recently started using IP address/network to track employees. So, not only do they know that you're swiping in on the weekend, they also know that you're NOT logged into your machine at that time and therefore trying to game the system. As of last week, they also started to fire people off who are not meeting their 3 days in office requirement. A coworker who I've worked with for years (and who was a kick-a-s worker at that) was fired. Not laid off, FIRED. They were not put on corrective action or given warnings, they were abruptly fired. No severance, nothing... So, I highly recommend that you guys start coming in for 3 FULL days in the office M-F. Otherwise, you are putting yourself at risk of being fired without any benefits or pay to cover you until you find your next job. It su-ks, but it's low-hanging fruit for them and an easy way to cut expenses without having to lay people off and continue paying severance. :-(

Global Protect is going to provide transparency on where people are logging in from.

I can never stop laughing at how hard our employees work at pretending to work with these swipe games. What makes this so hilarious is that they then try to talk about how evil and despicable management are.

Pot, kettle, black. Grow up and do your job.

How would tracking internal door swipes tell them how long you have been at your workstation? Doesn’t make sense… Once I swipe to get into my floor to start working, sometimes I never leave the area for the day because I’m in meetings the whole freaking day and have no time to take a break. so that’s the only time I swiped

Yes it counts. As long as you meet the number of days in office for the calculated period . Thats what they care about. They say 3 days in a week but the report calculates based on a 27 day period that subtracts weekends, holidays and vacation days from that time frame. The days remaining are then multipled by .6 giving you the total number of days you have to work in office during that period

They already track internal door swipes. Not all buildings have turnstiles. And not all turnstile buildings require you to swipe out. There is no way for them to track that kind of movement based on swipes.
They also told us officially that the swipes were unreliable so they were going to track IPs. Now if you ask HR questions they only mention swipes. It's not surprising that none of it is reliable because our tracking of any IT related things is always in shambles.

Whilst they are only tracking the main turnstile swipes at the moment they have been building the system to take the data from all the internal door swipes - this shows exactly how long employees are in the offices and what their movements are.... if you are playing the system you will be found out and terminated without any severance .... this may have changed but it was the stance.

Don't risk losing your job, if you don't like the culture, find yourself a company that will value you.... that was my decision and I haven't looked back...

The more people vote with their feet and call out bad culture the better !

I truly hope that all of these people with their endlessly creative shenanigans to avoid work are unearthed and displaced. Sc--wing the Bank seems to be the goal for many employees.

Pretty sure that Karma will be a b1tch.

“Sc--wing it up for the rest of us”
——
1- there isn’t room for people to be in office five days a week… Heck, there’s not enough space for three days.
2- I fell for the whole “come into the office two days a week and they won’t increase our days in office” ruse…. Came in… my whole group was coming in on this promise and sure enough now we’re in three days.

They keep playing games & taking advantage trying to sc--w people out of severance, taking away benefit after benefit, increasing my hours from my offer letter base of 37.5 hours per week… I’ll take advantage of them however I can.

These so-called leaders like to talk about culture… Well, this is the culture they created

They have the data on hand to know when you swiped in and they also have the data to know exactly how long you were logged into the network from the office. Just wait til they start USING that data and making ALL of our lives (even more of) a living he-l because of people like you.

It’s people like you that are sc--wing it up for all the rest of us. Soon we’ll all be 5 days a week because of you jerks trying to game the system. None of us like being back in the office, but your juvenile behavior is ridiculous and will end up punishing us all. Thanks a lot.

@zfc

As long as they are meeting requirements, who cares. I’ve known this is a thing it’s just not worth it to me since I live far from the office. I always do an extra day because I’m paranoid. Are they paying me more for going above and beyond? Nope. Not that I expect it from this company just proving a point that all they care about right now is that you’re making your 60 %. I’ve heard no grumblings or rumors in the office to make me think otherwise.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game. They built and implemented this inane system. You’re just playing by their rules. There’s no justifiable, genuine reason for their 3-day diktat — nothing but reflexive short-term thinking. Ironically, the 3-day rule is the pinnacle of participation-trophy thinking

In a few months the two of you’ll be on this board whining about termination for cause, after feeling so high and mighty about gaming the system.

Pro Tip: Channel the ingenuity which you apply towards gaming the RTO system into doing your job better, and suggest opportunities to streamline processes.

You’ll become engaged, recognized and likely to move up the chain. You might even begin to admire the man in the mirror.

I've been doing this for a month. Smooth sailing so far. All my manager cares about is 60% in office attendance. As soon as a colleague mentioned to me that they use the parking garage in downtown Pittsburgh some evenings and get credit on the in-office tracker, I just drive to the garage, swipe and go home to meet the 60% requirement. I've done Saturday and Sundays.
