Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

D9 Bargaining update and recent outage in the news

The latest news is that the company continues to bargain in bad faith with regressive proposals or resubmitting the same proposals like, pension rates but shuffling around the order for each year, one is 0%. They also act as if MLK day was a bargaining chip when most of the company already gets it as a paid holiday, both management and bargained in other districts. It would be rather discriminatory if they didn’t offer it. They continue to play games while employees continue to work without a contract. The strike vote results will be known soon, polling ended yesterday. Below are some reasons to get this contract wrapped up.

A statement from AT&T reads:

"We’ve restored internet and wireless service to affected customers in the Sacramento International Airport area following a fiber cut which appears to be an act of vandalism or attempted theft. We appreciate the patience of our customers as we worked to make repairs as quickly as possible."

The company already has enough negative press of late with the recent mobility outage and now releasing news about the data breach affecting millions. Fiber, copper damages and vandalism happens on a continual basis like the one that just occurred at the Sacramento International Airport, most never make the news. There aren’t enough skilled CP to handle them quickly when the union walks so, more bad press. The company needs to do the right thing and get this contract settled quickly and be in partnership with their bargained employees.

“ “ The results of the strike authorization vote are in, 92.57% of the Membership authorized President Cummings to call a strike pending Executive Board approval.”

Please just walk already, no one including the company cares. What will be funny is to see your pouting faces when you find out what the union actually agreed to. Then you’ll blame everyone but the union. We can’t wait to see it all unfold.

What’s a union slug? My last 5 1st levels were definitely lazier than the average crew member of those different crews. Generally union people are doing the workload assigned to them. The only time we have that’s slow is when business is bad and management controls that.

Federal subpoenas for IMEI data have been received and are being processed. Will not take long for the Feds to figure out who was in the area at the time of the cut. Enjoy your prison sentence.

District 6 had a copy and paste exactly from a district two years ago for the contract. I suspect this district will have the same. You all will not strike. the union does a very poor job these days about voting etc. only about 20 % people voted no and only about a third of the union members voted.

“ My prediction is the union technician continues to come out pretty good while the 1st and 2nd level managers continue to give back and worry about job security. Say what you will but this is the most likely outcome. Sure they want to come after union people too but technicians keep hanging around because it’s more difficult to just replicate/automate those skills. We need em.”

Company has no money to for pay raises and benefits. Strike is not going to change that.

Feds will get involved, acquire the triangulated cell phone data from the carriers in the area and then isolate it to the devices in the approximate area. Even if they had a burner phone they can trace it back to where it was bought and everywhere it had been prior to and after the event. People make it to easy as they can’t go anywhere without a cell phone.

“ They continue to play games while employees continue to work without a contract”

Why ? Because none of you have the guts to stand behind your empty words. You’d never be able to find jobs like these anywhere else which is exactly why you’re working without a contract. You have absolutely no dignity left and the company knows it.

Just know that regardless of how I perform, I’ll have a paycheck to cash.

“ I wonder how long it’s been since any of the CP have put up strand, pulled a lasher, climbed a pole or repaired any lead cable. I would like to video if it happens, to document if they are working safely and following the practices.”

The company execs and HR are d-mbazz’s to not have already settled the contract. Not like it snuck up on them, it had an expiration date. Their previous decision’s have already put the company in a bad place so, work on the low-hanging fruit. Getting the contract resolved shouldn’t be that difficult since, they have already settled several contracts, in a lot of other parts of the company.

I think they are playing a risky game of chicken, to give them time on financial improvements for FCF and all their forms of layoffs to take effect.

I concur on the damages and vandalism. It gives me work but having to constantly replace or repair fiber & copper cables gets old after a while. It happens repeatedly on some sections, the office worker CP isn’t going to like this work. All kind of pressure and eyes on the big ones like, the airport. Hope they are more competent than our leadership.
