Self-absorbed Content Creation Results in Lack of Productivity

It is unbelievable that certain group of people focus an enormous amount of their time creating and posting content about themselves on every platform they can, but have very little time to go in-person to customers and sell. Customers don’t care about your personal soap opera of content about your life.

G2 is a joker on LI - dude, i don't care about your mother's day posts or personal stories. Focus on losing less market share.

We have too many people in SBG who keep creating PowerPoint decks, SharePoint pages and no value add at all. Program Managers disguised as Engineers. Stupid plans that go on for multiple quarters with no end in sight. Sad situation

We had an early in career SE like that. Didn't know anything technical, but posted Cisco marketing all the time on LinkedIn. All fluff and no substance, and managers all believe they are a top performer. Apparently the type Cisco likes to keep nowadays.

Most of Cisco Live speakers are a joke. Many of them are presale engineers and architects that spend their time on building their deck instead of actually selling.

Work at a tech startup if you care about innovation, technology, or engineering.

And be out in the street when it fails, as it does the vast majority of the time. There are always trade offs. While hard to find there are a few better balanced and managed companies between flailing startups and dying mega-corps, but with the reduced risk often comes reduced pay.

Self-Absorbed content creation is a sign of a bureaucratic sales company...

People who actually know anything at all about technology understand that a system requires multiple components working together to function properly. If you are at a startup it's because leaders gathered to start it and provide financing and leadership. Marketing and engineering figure out what products or services should be provided. The products have to be developed, tested, and in some cases qualified. Marketing has to let the world know about it and sales has to sell it. For all but the smallest companies having engineering double up on IT is generally a bad use of engineering resources so you'll need someone to do IT. Get any one major function wrong and you're toast.

If you want to do more than play with a technology for a short period of time make sure there is competence in every major business function at any prospective new employer.

Seems like the issue might be a portion of employees believe Cisco is a technology company. Self-Absorbed content creation is a sign of a bureaucratic sales company... which is exactly what Cisco is

Work at a tech startup if you care about innovation, technology, or engineering. Then sell your product to Cisco because they can't build anything internally.

How about not blaming the sales guy who has for the past 3 years not had any innovation nor quality of product to sell. How about realizing that while sales has been told not to travel to customers, our competitors have started winning deals because they are. How about aiming your rants a bit higher at the ELT who have yet to produce any technology worth selling. When customers clearly state, "no innovation and quality of product is poor", where's the leadership? This ELT has turned one of the best sales organization into a slow dying organization. So don't blame the sales guy! He's doing what he can with what he's been told.
