Yikes. I am 61. I need to hold on for one more year. Legg is moving heaven and hecklesburg to crock block me. Massive contract with India pals to “help my team” and second contract with Croatian peeps to automate my work. Please, let a virus destroy to joint. Pretty please. I just need 1 more year, I’ll go to your hub and chit chat with people who think answering emails is their job duty. Lord help me.

It’s called a torpedo tax
God darn. You get scre%ed your whole life, then when you finally retire, well welcome... now you get scre#ed even more!
Most people can take Social Security at 62. You get less per month but you get it earlier.
Unless you really need to, taking Social Security at 62 is a huge mistake if you still want to work. There’s an annual threshold set for earnings you can’t exceed if you’re receiving SS benefits at 62 which might be around $22,300. For every dollar you earn that exceeds that amount, you have to pay back 85% in penalty taxes. It’s called a torpedo tax, so be very careful if you elect to take your SS benefit early.
Trust me, the data set used to lay people off includes their vested pension. I got hit with 7 months to go.
you missed the boat (2021)
Why one more year? Most people can take Social Security at 62. You get less per month but you get it earlier.
These old guys are pretty much company charity without the tax deduction.
Why 1 more year? Pension vested or personal "line in the sand"? Just curious. I wanted to make it to 59-1/2 but with AT&T eliminated my medical sub if not off payroll by EOY '21 (I think, time flys) so I had to bail sooner than I wanted. Fortunately my pension was vested. I'm retired and enjoying life without the BS of AT&T. I feel for those that AT&T will be sc--wing over with this hub stuff. Hope you make it 1 more year as you plan.
The reason there are a lot of older workers is because those are the folks still waiting for a package or that extra year or two (which always turns into another extra year or two). The younger workers don’t stick around long and many have left. They have no pensions, no hopes to advance, and no reason to stay. Money talks, I don’t have a pension, so it’s off to the next company that will pay me more or offer a cooler job. I’m in my 40s and the youngest on my team. We had a 30 something but he left. All the other younger people (they were in their 30s) left also.
AT&T taking care of lots of old and obsolete workers. That's for sure.
To h3ll with outsourcing, insourcing & abominable AI!
You can count on Stink to make sure those closest to retirement will be the first whacked. Go Toxic-T!
I'll go. Give me my severance.
Jeremy Legg for president! (JUST KIDDING)
And to think at a town hall, legg flat out said "nobody will be asked to move" and that it will all be handled by attrition. Wasn't more than a few months later that he was then on the Stank kool-aide. So you know he has no b@lls left.
I hope you get the time you need to make to official retirement.
