Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Jeremy Legg RTO update

Wave 1 and 2 didn’t create enough cost savings cutbacks because too many employees said they would move but ended up commuting on occasion. To avoid paying severance and additional layoffs, ATS is set to increase to 4 office days per week starting August 1st. You've heard it here first.

They should cap severance. Get the managers out of here

Says the union troll who probably gets 2 or 3 YEARS severance when managers are already capped at 6 months.

Jeremy Legg is a good dude.

I used to think this. Maybe he even was. I liked that he was straight forward and said it like it was, even when it wasn't popular. But the longer RTO and the Waves go on, the more dishonest he seems to be. "ATS is growing", "ATS is hiring", but now they are letting people go without giving them an opportunity to join the growing parts of the organization? Either he is lying about hiring/growing, or he is lying about why people are getting laid off. Either way, he is lying.

"They are all in ATS, which supposedly, according to Legg, hiring. So why are they surplusing people without giving them a chance to move to another part of the org that needs people?"

Most of the hiring is in the IDC, that's why.

There are so many managers who have been misleading and dishonest about relocation plans.

Oh right, because the company is acting with such integrity. There is absolutely nothing illegal about saying you'll move, and then not doing it. We're seeing the company say "your job is moving to Dallas", and then saying "you don't have a job anymore". How is that different? The company gives no guarantees, so there's no reason for the employee give any guarantees.

I really want to be proud of the company I work for and the work that I do, but that's just not possible at AT&T. I'm close enough to retirement that I'm not going anywhere in the near future, but can't wait to hit that date and walk away.

Oh no, someone call the wambulance! How dare employees prioritize themselves over a trashy company that treats them like disposable wet wipes!?

Kiss my a-s. This company deserves all of the inconvenience it can get.

Everyone being told to relocate should lie.

I’ve heard of severance being capped at 60 days. 30 seems steep. It used to be a year.

"Name one valid name or ATTUID of a manager surplused within a year of relocating. It isn’t possible."

Sorry, I'm not putting that kind of info out here, but 3 former coworkers have gotten surplus notices. All in Wave 2 and in CA. All 3 had said yes to relocating. 2 were surplused before they moved, but 1 had already moved to Dallas and has now been surplused.

They are all in ATS, which supposedly, according to Legg, hiring. So why are they surplusing people without giving them a chance to move to another part of the org that needs people?

Its all lies. I used to like Legg. Thought he was a good guy. Now he's just su-king Stankey's a-s angling for the CEO position.

“Lie. Who stated it and when? Why no official communication? Why are the official documents not updated? Why are you lying?”

I mean, I don’t know if I believe what they’re saying but it wouldn’t surprise me if T rolled this out sometime at the end of the year, sent out an email, and updated the docs then fired a bunch of people for wave 3. Sounds about Stankey, tbh.

They’re liars and under-handed conmen they’ll do anything to push up stock price short term and get their golden parachutes.

“They're not like us, plebs. They can't just drop everything and move in 6 months. They get plenty of notice. 2-3 years to prepare. Maybe the housing market will cool down.”
Every manager impacted by RTO has had notice of over a year. No one has had less than 18 months to prepare and plan.

Of course. They're not like us, plebs. They can't just drop everything and move in 6 months. They get plenty of notice. 2-3 years to prepare. Maybe the housing market will cool down. Maybe they need time to allow their kids graduate from school or whatever. Legg and his team are special. They must be accommodated. The rest of you... tough s...!

And who knows, maybe by 2026 the RTO will not even be relevant anymore, WFH will again be allowed. Don't worry about ms. Legg. He will be just fine.

Even if people did move, it wouldn't save the company a dime. In fact, a lot of these folks in non-hub locations are in market zone one. Which is the lowest salary band. If a bunch of them move to Dallas or Atlanta, they are moving to band 2 or 3, folks below the pay band will be given raises next year to get to the bottom of the band, folks in the band will get bigger raises to get to the midpoint. RTO will actually be MORE expensive for the company if folks move.

They don't want you to move, they want you to quit, so severance does not come into play. However, they don't want everyone to quit at once, because they can't onboard replacements quick enough. Which is why they are just stringing folks outside of hubs along.

It isn’t possible.

Not possible? There is absolutely NOTHING, anywhere, that states that if you relocate, you have any kind of promise you won't be surplussed. I think a better demand is, show us where the company guarantees, or even implies, that people who do relocate, won't be laid off for any period of time. Wishful thinking, man. Don't let it fool you.

““Plus, we already saw reports of people relocating just to be laid off almost immediately, or committing to relocate, but getting surplussed anyway.”
Those reports have been false. There have been some cases of managers telling known dead weight managers who indicated they would relocate that they shouldn’t as a courtesy.”

This post reporting it’s false, is false. Hundreds have been laid off in past months, including people that had moved to their designation. Performance other than fulfilling RTO is not being considered.

Why don't they just give us a cube and a desktop like it was before? Because they want us to have just enough "mobility" to dial in on our time, before and after the workday, and still be in the office five days a week.

There are so many managers who have been misleading and dishonest about relocation plans.

This is true, but I have to push back, still. No one would be misleading anyone about their "relocation" plans if the company wasn't playing this stupid game to begin with. When you have your so-called "leaders", telling you how important it is for YOU to relocate to be in the same hub with your team, but don't do it themselves (like Legg), why should any manager treat it with any kind of respect? With that said, I honestly don't understand why people think it's worth it, if you know you're not moving, just say so. Do they think they're buying themselves time? It's a mistake. The more anyone sticks around (knowing their days are numbered), the harder it will be to rebound and find another job in the market where every company continues to lay people off, while also freezing or reducing their own hiring.

Plus, we already saw reports of people relocating just to be laid off almost immediately, or committing to relocate, but getting surplussed anyway.

If they ask you to move, just tell them to FO, take your severance and find a better job, while you still can.
