Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Executive compensation packages

Article excerpt by Fast Company 5-21-2024

“Executive compensation has been under increased scrutiny as the wage gap has grown between CEOs and their employees. A strong leader can guide a company through difficult periods or drive it to new heights. But sometimes the ratio of their compensation compared to what the average worker earns is inordinately high. Overall, most executives at S&P 500 companies received year-over-year raises of at least 9%, the Journal found. Nearly a quarter of the executives saw their compensation packages climb 25% or more, however. Average employees, meanwhile, saw their salaries go up 4.4%—the highest year-over-year growth since 2001, according to The Conference Board.”

Thanks to Snake Oil Ed, favorite son in law RJS and Uncle Fester, the SBC dumpster fire has consumed every company it acquired. The list is a long one but here are a few names, Ameritech, BellSouth, Cingular, DTV, and the all time biggest cluster, yup you guessed it, Time Warner. Compensation for destroying billions in shareholder value. Only at SBC can this happen.

Most are for equitable exec compensation packages, if deserved but these incompetent’s are getting raises for failing. There used to be consequences for repetitive bad decisions that affected the company, stock price and employees.

Isn’t it wonderful that the leader of a public traded company continues to get large raises from a sycophant board. They in turn do the same for their fellow C-suite elites since they are on each other’s BOD. All while letting the human capital suffer from low raises, removal of benefits, unnecessary RTO and massive layoffs.

The company stock, dividends and market cap have gone way south from all the poor decisions but the public elite employees keep getting large compensation packages for poor performance. No consequences only, more enrichment!

What those Machiavellians “deserve” is somewhere between a perp walk and a tar & feathering.

“They deserve the full compensation packages received.”

It's not right that executives get paid so much and I don't.

If the C-Suite personnel use grammar as poorly as the managers who write into this blog, then I know why this company is in serious trouble. It has become very evident that T doesn't have very bright employees working for them. God help us all while we cruise the seas on the Titanic!

Unintended(?) consequence of the 401k. There is a direct correlation on the introduction of the 401k and the rapid rise in executive compensation at large publicly traded companies.

When you incentivize money to be invested, don't be surprised when money gets invested.

The face of the Stink is not a one for any company - especially one that is the top CEO on the CEO Wall of Shame.

The Stink Stinks. You smell it anytime you see his ugly mug.

'Execs are the face of the company'. Yes, and the executives knew that when they accepted the position. That aspect of their job has not changed since news papers became widely distributed. The issue is not the initial pay contract they agreed to, it is the YoY increase in compensation that they receive when the rest of the workers actually lose spending power to the economy. As well, many of the perks the C suite get as part of their job just further reduces their experience related to inflation and other economic factors. The rules they make for the rest of us is very impactful on our lives, but not so much on theirs.
