Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Laid off

If you have been laid off how long did it take to land a new job? Although I doubt the people who were laid off are on these boards now.

Laid off in October 2023. Didn’t really start looking until January 2024. Still looking for something permanent. Just accepted a contract role making 70% less than I was making at Wells - some money is better than no money.

@1mly+1sG1DgDW My opinion only: the career consultant assigned to me was aggressive in scheduling meetings…and felt like 1-1s on steroids.
They do offer to review resume & provide free access to LinkedIn classes.
Some people speak highly of the service.
I question WF partnership with them.

I'm with the last poster. I will likely take a paycut, but unwilling to relocate for this job, and probably will not get that offer.

They've been talking about doing this so long, I've prepared myself financially. I am not at retirement, but too old to move around.

I'm confident I'll find something else that pays the bills.

I’m definitely taking a pay cut if I exit the industry which I’m okay with. Just don’t care to stick it out because I’m 95% sure my role will be eliminated. Not in a hub and won’t relocate, but I think most of our team will be replaced with India folks. Everything is slowly transitioning.

Laid off October 2023, got a contract job a few months later in a different industry but it pays a lot less. Still looking.

@1mly+1sG1DgDW, you mean to tell us that the consulting company's help didn't get you a new job and they were useless after all?

I really don’t care if I get laid off, but I’ve been working in the industry and this bank for 25 years plus, so I can just take my 401k and go off to the beach, this place doesn’t care about you, not one iota, so please get your career in order. I am on the casino tour right now.

I’m lucky I can just take my 401K and retire early. I’m only 55 but I can do that. I can get a part-time job to be around people to make connections and make me happy 😊

this place is…

Absolutely abysmal.

After about 14 months, after all the consulting company assistance (paid for by wells fargo) to update my resume and coaching, I ended up deciding that wells did the best thing for me, so I retired.

Realistically it currently takes months. That could be 3, could be 18. All valid points already posted. If you’re going out there cold with no insider info, there will be difficulties and it will not be fast unless you get lucky.

This isn’t meant to worry you nor is it an extreme situation, it is the current normal. The job market is being flooded with workers in general and it’s getting far worse for Technology as all of these big orgs cut hundreds to thousands.

I was laid off in October 2023..took a little bit of time to decompress. Started looking in January and it hasn’t been as quick and easy as I’d hoped! Like another poster indicated, what skills utilized at Wells Fargo was pretty much Wells Fargo specific. I’ve learned to spin some equivalent skills to fit any company. Crossing my fingers something comes thru soon though there are days it chips away at my confidence.

There were 4 of us let go in February. One got a job right away with a connection. The second went back to WF for less money (already unhappy) and the 3rd just got hired this week with another company, much better job. I took some time off and just started looking. I think I’m going to go back to school to add on to my education and look outside of traditional banking or a smaller bank. I will not be applying at WF under any circumstances.

I retired. One person in my group found another job immediately. One took about a year, but he’s much better off. Another quit looking after six months and took a part time job at Home Depot. He’s happier also.

It’s going to rely on your skillset. I have one ex-coworker that only had internal WF specific skills. Took her 16 months to find a new position (support of apps in tech). Another ex-coworker kept up on current technology and was able to land a gig just a few months after layoff.

Maintain transferable skills and knowledge. If your job is all WF processes and policies, you will struggle.

I suspect I’ll be laid off by at least second quarter of next year, but don’t want to apply at other banks. I’ve begun the search this year, but hoping the market is better maybe 2026 - wishful thinking.

I was laid off in August 2023 and it took me 5 months to get another position. I actually got another job with WF however my new job is terrible and I wish I would have kept searching,
