Do they have to explain why you and why you are considered redundant?

No, but like another person said....lack of strategic relationships. IE having air cover during a LR. I moved from a dept where I had air cover, to another "cutting edge, newest thing" group at Cisco, where I "thought" I had air cover. Nope. Got LR'd one year later, along with 75% of the group. Biggest mistake of my career.

Dude, it's like a girlfriend. Move on. Hopefully you have plan B, if not focus on finding a new girlfriend (job). Who cares why she dumped you.

What if I want to ..... my girlfriend one more time before she breaks up with me?

This is the problem with Cisco, many wastes from the bottom of tech working at Cisco, yet these people inside Cisco think they're the greatest.

Let's think like Jensen Huang, start loving your job by cleaning toilets and dishes very well, and you can go from anywhere you want from there. Start love your job is the key.

All these pathetic people at Cisco are looking to take short cuts and taking credits from others

CX engineering was redundant and many Sr. Managers and Directors have no skillset or business acumen, only dictatorship. CX engineering was run as their own kingdom. No CX business moved the CX engineering and its supporting groups are directionless. Why do they need Managers and directors when IC are located or moved to different groups ? it is all waste of Cisco money

In IT, they promoted an incompetent director to a VP level in HCIO organization and then the immature VP laid off the most talented, most competent employees in his organization. Way to go HN!

You were let go due to a lack of strategic relationships. Either become friends with a decision-maker or have damaging dirt on a decision-maker... both provide job security in Corporate America

They can let HR handle the conversation too so the manager doesn't have to reiterate what they probably have the last 3 years to low and non performers.

Except that they're not letting low and non-performers go. They're letting "expensive", i.e. older workers go. And managers read from a script that HR wrote. You don't talk w/ HR.

The question is simple: are there any justifications provided?

Simple answer: No. They just say your position has been eliminated. They rarely use the word "redundant".

I just need to know if they have to provide a reason or not.

Why do you need to know?

But in the US, especially in CA and NC, which are "at-will" states, the offer letter you receive or maybe the on-boarding documents state that the job is "at will" and that either you or Cisco can end the employment at any time for any reason. Cisco just gives 30-ish days notice and pays out the remaining number of days "in lieu" of notice to equal 60 days just to avoid any lawsuits and potential WARN requirements. 60 days pay is cheaper than dealing w/ arbitration or courts and they don't have to work as hard to keep track of the number of employees impacted to ensure they don't violate WARN requirements if they always provide 60 days notice (or equivalent).

You got LR because they don't like you, it is that simple. Why do anyone have to explain to you they don't like you? It's their house and their rules, they don't go work for you, you work for them, even there's an explanation, expect to be a fake one.

Do you own Cisco? Move on.

Cisco has has so many layoffs that they've perfected the process. In fact, I've heard they've applied for a patent for Fran's "People Deal" so she can sell it to other companies looking to regularly ravage their employees.

If you are U.S. based and reside in an at-will state, they don't have to tell you anything. (and they absolutely won't)

Hah - the company wants to stay out of court, so they say as little as possible:
"Your position has been eliminated for business reasons".

Don't care if it is the truth or not, that could become their problem at some point. I just need to know if they have to provide a reason or not.

They will tell you anything but never the truth (all managers do a training before a LR regarding what they are allowed to say and how they should do it.) I know the case of someone talented who was LR'ed. He was lied in face by that Sr. Director (the explanation was a lie, this became obvious 2 weeks after this layoff). Issue was that this person was a critical thinker.. and mini-dictators don‘t like that.

I was asking if there is any explaination from your manager or from anybody else, it could be HR or Legal or whatever. The question is simple: are there any justifications provided?
