Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but NO VSP is coming either on June 4th or June 11th.

@2vhz+1sMxaC1f they'll get any enhanced benefits

Last time for feelsies (bad press/potential lawsuits) I believe they got VSP benefits minus the voluntary part.

If they did do a VSP again I think they’d probably still get a ton of takers with a normal package or something closer to it so there would be no adjustments.

They could do anything or nothing at all of course. Since I’d push the button in a second for less far than a RIF package it’ll never be available to me. It is just enough to get me to “retirement” which gets me a prorated STI and RSUs just like everyone else who gets RIFed so the “retirement” part will offer nothing but a 25% discount on wireless yippee.

So if a person with 30 plus years is told on last thursday in May that they're rif'd, then later next week vsp is offered, how does this affect that rif'd employee? Not at all or they qualify for vsp? Thanks for info-truly confused

I hope those notified get the VSP package equivalent.

It could also be the people notified HAVE to leave, not an option. The VSP is for volunteers.

@1xpc+1sMxaC1f part of this is true and part isn't. When you are notified, you are given a one page document that contains a link to a website where you can download all of your severance related information. Having said that, it's true when they did the last VSP, they made it retroactive back a few months for prior RIFs. They also applied it to any RIFs that occurred after the VSP was announced and prior to the last VSP off payroll date. So if a VSP is coming, any enhanced package should be the same for the folks notified this week. I will say compared to other companies, Vz is one of the few that offers enhanced packages to reduce headcount. After the huge mistake they made when they did the Infosys deal at the same time as the VSP and tried the shaft the people who didn't want to go with no severance, I don't think they'll repeat anything like that.

One thing to keep in mind, when notified, you are not given your 'numbers' until later - not at the time of notification. Having said that, in the (long) past, the new 'package' details were backward applied to people laid off in the past 90 days. So for the folks let go, wait to see if the proposed VSP applies to you....

With VSP are employees offer a package?

I am a manager and i am worried about the same. It’s crazy but it’s absolutely true that people got laid off on may 30 and the vSP is coming next week. You can challenge that all you want. I know that for a fact and it’s not heresy . I think it’s absolutely horrible that HR allowed people with 20+ years of service to get laid off with VSP round the corner. Those people could have gotten a Full year of coverage through VSP. Shame on you HR.

What is VGS?

I was impacted. Software dev within VGS. Bit scared cause I know how the tech market is right now and have 2 kids and in high cost of living area so... definitely not fun. Just very unexpected because my team was already exceptionally lean.

I know a lot of people here are anti verizon and all that, but at the end of the day this company allowed me to survive in this world for 9 years. Might not be the best company but it was a paycheck and I absolutely loved the work I did and team I was part of..

Not sure what's next. Sorry to others impacted..

So either the layoffs today have the same payout or there is no VSP.

This would be weird with the VSP out next week. Will they convert those that were riffed to the package?

I'm sorry about the impacts, I was impacted last year after a career with a company that I thought I would retire from. All I can say to those impacted (what a silly word, more appropriate is laid off); just know that this is not a reflection on you or the work you contributed to this company. There are better opportunities waiting out there for you. I will say the job market is tough right now but you got this.
