Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Oriskany Closure Finally Public

It took a few months but a local newspaper covered the closure of Oriskany;

I worked in Oriskany and since left because I didn't see a future there. I took a pay cut in a position in a different field but my mental health has significantly improved since.

Pick me! Pick me! Getting the entire summer off paid! A perfect ending to my time at this dump.

The warn notice will be posted after the people are let go, just like last time most likely.

@axkj Shouldn’t there be a WARN notification? Isn’t that the point of the notice to notify local/state government to prepare resources?

First wave of layoffs from Oriskany starting this week. There will be 2 or 3 waves total and everyone from Oriskany will be gone.

If BNYM doesnt want employees working long term frrom home then they need to stop putting them in that position. Oriskany wasnt the only building closed. Chicago prior, Florida and texas after. Plus others as well. If they want to comaplin about cost then shut down your high cost locations like nyc or maybe one of two buildings in PA since one remains partially empty. Neither central NY location was high codt areas. Matt wells did this garabage before getting fired himself. Karma

Can we please stop with the Syracuse and Oriskany threads?

It’s NYC, Pittsburgh, Lake Mary, UK, India and Poland in that order.

How many times can Syracuse and Oriskany be shut down and have the buildings sold?

JV, actions speak louder than words. For a company that supposedly doesn’t want anyone WFH long term, we sure have an awful lot of senior managers WFH. Dozens. Cruise through the org chart starting at the top and see for yourself.

I’ve been told by my direct upper management that BNYM does not want anyone WFH long term. Eventually, everyone who is currently 100% WFH will be given the option to relocate to Pittsburgh or Florida, or lose their job. The timeline depends totally on your department and how prepared they are to fill the gap your role leaves if you are laid off.

No one working remotely right now should comfortably assume they will have a job by 2024 year end. Other departments are not being as transparent about this because they don’t want staff jumping ship for other jobs before management is prepared.

However, this reporting is still wrong. BNYM didn’t close Oriskany to switch to fully remote work, BNYM closed Oriskany because they didn’t want to pay for the site anymore, and calculated the risk of laying off everyone employed there in waves. They decided the cost benefit would outweigh the risk.

The company does not want any negative press to detract from its course, hence why we are threatened with termination if any one of outside of Corporate Communications speaks to the media.

Incredible reporting. 10 months after the office closing was announced. Also no one got laid off from the closing, just remote. It’s freaking Oriskany, not exactly a hub of international commerce. 🤷‍♂️

What, no comment BNY? What about the, “BNY Mellon remains committed to CNY” response that you gave after closing every other office? Oh wait, there are none left.
Damn shame the careers of so many dedicated employees destroyed by the so called leaders in their pursuit of a bigger paycheck.

I don’t know anyone from Oriskany getting let go just because they are remote now. I talk to those people all the time to.

They are no longer letting the weak links go. You can have a great review and still be gone. Especially in the offices that aren’t growth centres. If Oriskany was sold, layoffs will be coming.

@wvs+1sNK1PmV stop scaring everyone They aren’t going to lay off a whole location. They would have to issue a warn notice.

The quote in that article from this site makes it like everyone will be working from home permanently. I heard they were going to lay off the people from there because there is no office like they did other locations.
