Roll call, what departments and what locations had layoffs?

Marlene Hunter was fired last week of 11/5/2025 And Sr. Management Danielle Tomasso quit on 11/7/2025 to go to paylocity.
Hey folks, don’t forget to go into your phone VPN settings and remove Paychex’s ability to monitor.
Curious if those laid off were full time WFH, hybrid, or in-office employees?
Terminated position is not the same as a layoff
I work from home, customer service side. I live nowhere near any office. From what I'm reading here, my job is in jeopardy too. Anyone know when they will mandate all employees return to office ? I am trying to prepare for job loss. This is really shocking. I thought I'd be at Paychex for years.
It's not the company it used to be..grateful I had the opportunity to enjoy the earlier years..greed has taken over..caring for employees went out the window..guess India is happy. Clients need to know where their business really is..
I ran a query on recent terms and found about 700 names. Definitely more than “half of 1%”, but that’s probably just counting EE’s that physically work in a Rochester branch
A double homic--e in ABQ NM at Paychex, 1 employee died, and nobody cared! Paychex years ago would have cared. People were let go remotely, even though they sat feet away from the senior manager in office. People were walked out by management while they decided to take the sh---y demotion and pay offer. Paychex is about money, not the clients and definitely not the employees. Paychex fired people fighting life threatening illnesses. Yet we were built for small businesses.
They did this same thing in 2020 and gave no heads up. No one should be too surprised with them offshoring everything they possibly can.
If anyone else is struggling with the NYS unemployment system, my tip is to connect with your State Assembly representative. I have found that to be a great resource in what seems to be an otherwise futile process.
Paylocity is hiring! Think about the Paychex you knew 10+ years ago as it was growing and scaling to $2B. You will notice most that went to Paylocity never came back! There is a great reason for that. So sorry for those that lost their jobs. Left Paychex a few years ago and when people ask if I'm sorry I did the answer is a very simple "not even for a moment".
So what departments are next because I was told there are no other layoffs
More are coming before September 1st, confirmed by Paychex HR. Buckle up folks
That is awful for employees to have to lie to clients. That is not true. I was not offered to change positions or anything. I was let go on Thursday. I was done as soon as our “meeting” was over. My access was gone within probably 30 mins. I was already work from home.
we got that tasteless email yesterday about all the new job postings they are going to have in the new roles. How cruel and out of touch can a leader be sending out an email company wide about new jobs while people who are being laid off have to work here till Friday. They really don’t care about their people product or clients. It’s so sad.
Currently employee. We had concerned clients asking about the layoffs and we were provided a wordtrax stating the they employees were relocated or now working from home. So at what point do we take the I out of IParis? Is it legal for our employers to ask us to lie?
While we are at it….Lets bring up the employee that was shot and ki-l a month ago at the Albuquerque branch. This is absolutely the saddest thing. This has been kept so quiet to the point that others couldn’t even mention it on social media. If you posted anything, you were told to delete it. I pray his family sues the he-l out of Paychex. My prayers have been with his family and friends since I heard about it.
20+ year. Just 2 weeks ago (when John’ bullsh-t email came out about the changes coming) my team was told we were “all” safe. Here we are with at least 5 of us laid off. They are now claiming that this is totally different. How is that even possible? There was no other reason to lay us off then. I’m so disappointed in what this company has become. They are just awful anymore. John could careless too. I hope some of his family are treated like this some day. Hopefully the Board of Directors will see this and someday get rid of John. I busted my a-s for this company for so long. I dealt with all the cr-p when DSC needed help. I worked overtime during Covid to make sure payroll stuff was handled and so many other things and this is how we are repayed. John/excutives you are nasty humans!
hey @4sda -
all this complaining does indeed make a significant impact. it shows all of us how deep the overall discontent is across the organization and highlights how many things deeply upset people.
There is a mountain of frustration that has built up, and the question is how this affects the workers, the customers, and the overall organization. If you were not to read this thread, you might feel it's only you or me who feels things are off. But just look at how wide and deep this pool of problems is that we have here at Paychex. I think I understand where you are coming frombut please try to understand everyone else who is venting on this board.
I left four years ago, so consider my experience.
This will not work for everyone, and it is not a one-size-fits-all solution for all the problems employees may face. In my case, I realized there was a deep disconnect between the proclaimed values and what was happening on the ground. It felt like I was being deceived, as the executives would say one thing but do something different when it came to executing and managing....
At that point, I realized that either they needed to be removed to stop this charade, or I needed to leave. Given all the incentives they had to entrench themselves even deeper and exploit the amazing compensation streams they enjoyed, I realized I had to go.
I started interviewing and within four months, two decent offers were shaping up. One of them was at a smaller company with a founder who had amazing integrity and did not seem solely driven by profit. I jumped at the opportunity, and it turned out to be one of the best career decisions I ever made... maybe my total compensation could be a bit better, but I am happy at work and on track with my retirement goals (I plan to retire in 2more years, originally aiming for retirement at 60 but oh well)....
Anyhow, this may not work for you, but think about where the values are and whether this company is worth supporting and investing your time in.

The Paychex Hater Squad is deep in this thread. If u guys hate it here so much why are u still working here? Lmao. Getting laid off su-ks obviously. But go get a job about it. All this complaining does nothing.
What area of virtual sales? I’m in virtual sales and didn’t hear of anyone laid off today??
6/3/2024 -- 4pm EST. Still no reason as to why. Everything is going AI. Anyone let go today?
And not a peep from corporate to the rest of the offices in the Paychex network. Rumblings of a Greensboro closure are happening and all of management is denying it.
More layoffs happened this morning (6/3/24)...virtual sales, etc.
They are lying on the local news in Rochester. They said less than 1/2 of 1%. That's a lie. There's more coming supposedly. Real low morale here today
I spent nearly a decade at Paychex and bled more blue than anyone. At the time, saying that I was #PaychexProud wasn't just a tagline - I truly was. I was close to a lot of the inner workings of what happened during Covid and was unfortunately able to see firsthand how the company prioritized things -- shareholders first, clients second, and employees a distant third. Without any logical explanation or business case, I watched as efforts to influence executive leadership to open their minds to flexible ways of working were snuffed out in lieu of old school ways of working in a cubicle farm so ineffective managers could watch their employees work... I slowly felt my love for the company fade out - and ultimately chose to move on from my role myself a couple of years ago. I honestly thought I would retire from the company - but it all shifted so quickly and so drastically. Culture at Paychex was always a calling card. And in the last two years since I left, I have watched the culture at Paychex circle the drain. I speak with friends who are still there (though that number has drastically decreased as many others have left themselves before this layoff). John's leadership is abysmal. The warmth that Marty exuded is now gone from the executive team. Even if I didn't always agree with Marty's old school approach to things, and his conservative nature, he was always kind and was open to hearing out different opinions. John is all about the numbers, not the people, and it doesn't matter how long you've been with the company, how loyal you've been or how much you've sacrificed. You're on board with his direction or you're out. Full stop. Hundreds of good people were terminated last week. The news reports are so alarmingly skewed... 3-4% of the entire organization was jettisoned. But hey, whatever makes the shareholders a few extra bucks... Wall Street loves a layoff... Investors want increased margins, regardless of how many billions Paychex has in the bank.
Paychex lists Integrity as one of its core values... seems maybe the values need a "reprioritization" too.
The layoffs are not finished, they will be rolled out in stages spanning across the first two quarters of the fiscal year as well as a mandatory return to office for all work from home staff. If you’re not nearby an office and refuse to relocate you will be terminated. Any sales rep underperforming, start looking for jobs.
Hey all, I just found this post but thought I'd fill in with what I know as someone who was working in a branch that closed. 4 branches permanently closed on 5/30; Indianapolis, Nashville, Albuquerque, and Denver. All supervisors and managers from SMB and RRT were either terminated or demoted with same pay to specialist positions. (We all know they couldn't afford to lose anyone client-facing) They set an 11:30aEST meeting on our calendars for Thursday morning. The meeting was comical, Marlene Hunter-Lammie was treating us all like children and telling everyone to be quiet because they had decided to do the meeting with All of the affected branches at the same time. We were then told to pack our personal belongings and cower by our laptops waiting for our meeting. I was escorted out early but from what I heard they were notifying the people who kept their positions first and were telling them to go home immediately and start working again. The ones who were terminated or demoted were told last so as to not make the other employees emotional.
Personally, I was tipped off the night before, I came in on Thursday and realized that my direct supervisor was not in BluePages and that I was completely separated from the org structure. I did not cower by my desk and wait for the news and so I was escorted out personally by a security guard and denied my severance.
Happy 25 years to me in a world where loyalty means nothing! In the early part of my Paychex career I really loved everything about it then India stepped in and here we are... Bad decision Paychex as you have list lots of amazing people and talent. Both are irreplaceable.

Anybody wanna join mr in a class acton lawsuit?looks like you can’t work for a competitor in the termination paperwork and looks like we’re mostly over 40 per my docs
I’d encourage all those laid off or those that have additional information to be reaching out to your local news stations. It feels that Paychex is fully trying to cover up the amount of people laid off as well as the office closures to appease shareholders. I find a big issue that when reached out for questioning on this all that was said was in regards to Rochester. Your employees deserve transparency. Everyday I am finding out of new departments that had big cuts. Internally we are told nothing.
Anyone who is reading this and/or who has posted should make sure they submit a Glassdoor review and make sure they answer the CEO approval question. Time to see what his approval rating really looks like.
But for all the "I miss Marty" gang, let me remind you that he's the one who hired John and promoted him to CEO. The man who fu---d the whole service org as SVP of Service was somehow handed the keys to the entire kingdom. Look how well that's played out.
I am so, so sorry to all who were let go. I have survived for now, but will be looking for a new job immediately. The amount of respect I have lost for this company by recent actions is unspeakable. Part of me is not surprised, while the other part of me is just speechless. How can we morally stand by this?
I was laid off in 2002 as part of the “covid layoffs”. Covid was used as a cover story to expedite the closing of multiple branches and ending the careers of multiple employees. I was a supervisor in the dsc at the time and helped build the dsc from from 4,000 local clients to 97,000 national clients by the time I left. I was there 19 years and “bled blue”. Fortunately after being thrust out into unemployment at the time the world shut down, I found employment at a competitor and have been promoted 3x since. So, please all those impacted hold out hope. There’s better opportunities out there. You were always just a number on a ledger sheet to Paychex and nothing more. Same as me. I wish you well on your journey.
To the impacted person who posted
"I’ve been in bed all day hoping for a call telling me they made a mistake letting me go I don’t know what I’m going to do my work was literally my life what will I do if I don’t find something quick I apologize for spilling my feelings here but I’m to ashamed of letting my friends and family know I was fired for no reason by a company I gave everything day in and day out"
In fact to ALL impacted people. I want to say this, as someone who survived. I am VERY sorry that a company that I respected, and was so excited to join, has disrespected you in this way. Although I was not impacted, I have already started talking to people on new opportunities, and will leave as quickly as I can. Once I am gone, I will make sure the media knows the truth about what "Re-Prioritization" means, "India", so all clients know who is really accessing their information. Don't let the lack of respect from this sh---y blue company bring you down. You will excel.... if I was able to share who I was, we would create an online group that would bring the bullsh-t to light!
Paychex's response is ".5 of 1% affected" Well, they must have had one of the magicians in India do that math, because its about as accurate as the payrolls they process! John Gibson is a douche, and I hope someone fills him in on that. How is it Marty ran a solid company for so many years, and in less than two years Gibson has turned this place into less value than what he drops in his depends every day.
And don't even get me started on communication.... An employee was shot an ki-led in the Albuquerque Parking lot, and not a single message sent to employees. If they won't send a message for that, the only message you will get when they close the place is the red dot on the badge reader when your badge doesnt work. Then they close the place, they probably feel less valued than the .5 of 1% in Rochester. What really set the downfall of this place in motion was a hire they made at the Exec level in May 2023. Those who work here know who......
