Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Right? Right? Right? Right? Right?

Hi Upper Midwestern coworkers,

Say, we've had this talk before but we need to have it again.

Constantly saying the word 'right?' multiple times in the same sentence makes you sound like a sheltered geek. Let's look at an example...

Normal conversational sentence:

First, open the spreadsheet and click on the Accounts tab. Make your updates and then save.

Let's look at how upper Midwesterns trying to sound hip/current would say it:

First, right? Open the spreadsheet, right? And then click on Accounts tab, right? And then save, right?

Imagine listening to that in every meeting, and especially 1+ hour long meetings 🤮

The weirdest thing is that it's employees over 40, over 50, etc that are doing this. It's not young interns or something.

It's almost like they're trying to mimic what they think people on the West Coast sound like, but I've never heard my West Coast coworkers talk like that.

Mostly looking at you, Minnesota, but some in nearby states have it too.

And no, it's not everyone from the upper Midwest. But everyone that does it is from there.

We are not destroyers of the company. We are liberators of the company. The point is that greed, for lack of a better word, is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all of its forms, greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge, has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed, will not only save Wells Fargo & Company, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA.

I'm telling you, I'm getting the F off and there is a reason why I'm getting the F off and everyone can either believe it or they cannot believe it, I don't give two Fs. But I am telling you right now, this M F bank is NOT REAL. And you can stay with this M F bank and you can die with them or not, I'm not going to.

What’s worse is their constant usage of the word “actually”.

Only pompous tech arseholes use "net-new". These impostors would never survive in a FAANG company.

The one that bugs me is “net new”. What value does “net” add to “new”? Either it’s new or it isn’t!

I have to agree with you, OP. The first time I heard it I thought the person wanted to be reassured. I kept saying sure, ok, I agree....lol. Then, I realized "right" was just a filler word for this person. It really bothers me when I hear right used this way.

OP here.

Pretty much all of you are wrong. I hurt your feelings. Your tender little feelings.

Maybe stop saying 'right?' 200 times a day. Can you handle that? If not, I hope you lose your job.

Don't worry about me. I thrive in chaos. Most of you couldn't handle it.

That's it though. No more posts from anyone on this. Got it?

Wow, you sound insufferable. Maybe you should relax and meditate or go on a mental health retreat, that's what you west coast types do, right? Ope, didn't mean to generalize! Come visit, perhaps you could benefit by purifying yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

OP, by referring to the "weakest dataset", it is not in regard to your behavior. Rather, it is a higher level description of your entire dataset (experiences, the movie playing out in your own eyes). This makes your original post sound entirely subjective and wraught with errors.

We all fall into that trap at times, over generalizing without taking a breath and really thinking things through before communicating something.

Maybe you are having a bad day, maybe there is something else you wish to convey. Unfortunately you are going to have to deal with feedback, which absolutely should not enjoyable. Hope to learn and move on. Godspeed.

@nvj

In your attempt to sound intelligent, you failed.

Your post says that I'm projecting my own behaviors onto others. That would be correct if I said 'right?' all the time, but I don't. I never say it. It sounds ridiculous.

So then why did you post that? Did I offend you? How so? Are you one of these people that constantly says 'right?' all the time?

It's anonymous here, so if you say 'right?' all the time, just own it.

Also the word "like".
Anybody who uses "like" at the start of a convo, in the middle of a convo, and at the end deserves an instant lobotomy , right?

I have heard it used in Charlotte, NY, Tempe, and other sites. It isn't limited to Minnesota.
