Where did all the work go? 2 years ago, mandatory ot/ 6 ten hour days mandatory, last year same thing half the year, then bo-m! NO OVERTIME allowed… now we hardly have enough work to keep all the techs busy for 8 hours. Any thoughts?

The stock is up because investors like that we didn’t jump and make an expensive offer for USCC. D-mb decisions are fading. RTO excluded.
Live in Frontier territory that was taken over from Verizon. Verizon had installed a lot of fiber. Been getting a lot of rain and some wind damage. Have only seen 1 Frontier truck in this area the past month or so. Kind of like the old Uverse build. Once the F1 fiber was placed a lot of work went away. We were struggling to find work after lunch most days. Remember the old days when a heavy rain meant being on a service emergency for a month.
We wait for the customers to submit a ticket. It's all ticket driven now even if we see there's a failure.
Bet some of those alarms have nothing to do with actual customer service. Kind of like the old copper rehab packages. Preventive maintenance. Remember working around an Air Pressure group back in the day. They would get alarms in abandoned cable because no one had processed the cable records showing it was decommissioned. Had a guy I know who went to the fiber build group and discussed that very issue. At that time he didn’t know if they had anyone reconciling the records. Their responsibility was getting fiber placed as quickly as possible bottom line. Turn it up as complete and move to the next job.
- The network element telemetry system is hosed.
- There are not enough NRC technicians to process tickets and send them out to the field.
- The company is hiding alarms. You can walk through a central office with a lot of red lights but those alarms have been inhibited.
“It appears core is being phased out in favor of C&E/Prem Techs.”
Spoke with a guy who was an outside mgr but took a staff job 2-3 years ago. Recently went on some ride days. Seems a lot of the Prem techs have learned to restore service outside of their areas of responsibility therefore not having to generate helper tickets for the core guys. Said the plant is sc--wed up because they get service up with no rhyme or reason but customers have service. Also said per the techs he has ridden with some of the crews are becoming mostly Prem techs. 9-10 Prem techs and 3-4 core techs.
Show some gonads and strike baby strike!
It is a cool story of how 3 “leaders” destroyed a +145 year old company into a shell of itself through M&A then running them into the ground.
Cool story bro.
In the rural we’re losing to the gov funded fiber initiatives. In the Urban there’s plenty of work most days it’s just being put on prem techs instead of core. It appears core is being phased out in favor of C&E/Prem Techs.
I agree, inflation has hit Main Street. High energy prices has consequences across all industries.
The “Don” is going to look so great in orange. Match his hair (if it’s real).
Inflation is hitting everyone, customers are only spending on the necessities so, not a lot of churn in real estate due to supply and interest rates.
“5 if you are even an employee, I would invite you to do a job shadow with a core tech”
This. Additionally, it really should be required as a prerequisite to any supervisory role- ESPECIALLY if you are going from prem tech to a supervisor/L2/L3 of any mst. You should not be allowed to supervise a position you haven’t worked or at the very, very least- haven’t shadowed.
1 we get 30 mins for lunch
2 if work was being pushed off to the next day or other techs we would then still have work to do
3 who you gunna call if your interest goes down and you can’t access these threads all day? “A union boy” is going to fix it for ya
4 we don’t hustle because that’s when things get unsafe, they preach safety and unfortunately that means taking the extra time to check the integrity of a pole before we climb 20ft up in the air on it, then we take the time to check for electrical hazards ya know so we don’t die.
5 if you are even an employee, I would invite you to do a job shadow with a core tech
6 have a beautiful evening :)
union boys don’t do sh-t. they play games to shove the work to other days or people and get paid way too much. The only time they hustle is to the truck for lunch hour. Company found a way to rid itself of you.
It’s copper and fiber we’re working, where I’m located we probally have only 30/40% fiber coverage, the rest of customers are copper…. To my it makes no sense.
Twisted pair services are not competitive if that’s what you’re working on then that’s what happened. Fiber or cellular services do not require as much labor.
All I see are contractors doing att work. Union done got busted while you weren’t lookin
