Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO surplus?

I was told in early March that I will be surplussed because I declined moving to my new designated city (Dallas). We are now in June and my management has not informed me when I will be laid off. What's going on here? Anyone else in a similar situation?

“I have a job lined up. They will wait till I get the severance and get cut free. Say it aint so that the liars are doing better. lol if you are being extended, that just means that your misery will continue to grow while your career sits stagnant.”

It’s 2024, people with no loyalty to companies and only out for themselves to raise their TC and min-max always come out ahead.

It’s what the companies do, you’re a su---r if you have corpo loyalty.

Fu-k these companies.

For $200k a year in this job market I’ll keep chillin riding extensions til interest rates drop, thanks.

"This wasn’t a direct surplus in any way."

Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce the most gullible employee who ever lived

“Turns out the people who did better were the ones who lied and said they would move. They keep getting extensions. The only people who did better than that were the list of favorites that are allowed to work from all over and have their people all over. All you need is a VP that vouches that they have special skills no one else can do. Favoritism at its finest.”

Been telling people from the start to just lie.
If you’re on important funded projects and lie you’ll just get extensions indefinitely or eventually get virtual.

No one agrees with forced relocation including most L3’s and L4’s so they will just keep giving extensions til someone L5’s steps in.
This is the way, we all knew this is how it would be done because most young talented people don’t want to work at T and/or aren’t in Dallas so they will give people extensions to avoid losing talent and having funded projects fall apart.

Just lie. Fu-k the system. Severance is a joke unless you’ve been here for decades.

“a move letter (surplus in disguise as we all know). “
You were given the option to move. Take some accountability for not agreeing to meet updated requirements of your position. You would have retained your job if relocating. This wasn’t a direct surplus in any way.

I received a move letter (surplus in disguise as we all know). We received it in April. Had to answer mid-May if we would move.

We’re told that last day on payroll is 7/9 and we will get a surplus notification letter on 6/25.

It’s a weird space to be working in…

OP, just hang back. You’re probably on the July off payroll list. Levels 4,5 & 6s are making final determinations now based on who they like - not skills that r contributions.

The standard procedure these days is that you will be notified exactly 14 days before your last day.

Start looking for another job while you still have this job. Most companies will hire those who still have a job rather then being unemployed. When you get the new job, start it right away so you have your pay, your healthcare benefits, your 401k, etc. Use this time to find another job.

It happened to me in wave one, just ride it out and do the bare minimum to not get fired for cause. I had a good manager who said don’t do anything until you get your two weeks. Enjoy the ride and get out of the sh-t hole that is AT&T.

“It's driving me nuts. Not healthy.”

It’s a feature not a bug, they’re psychological te------ts trying to force you to quit so they don’t have to pay severance and you aren’t eligible for next years bonus.

This is who Stankey is.

Uncertainty, dangling you a long hoping you’ll quit without severance after finding a new position. It’s happening at scale and is a part of this underhanded layoff they’re performing at scale.

If you continue on, they’ll eventually send you a letter 2 weeks before you’re to be off payroll, I hear there’s a cycle coming around September and other in December.

Good luck.
