Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

How many are considering going for VSP?

VSP looks reasonable, I may just go for it. It’s not that I am looking forward to staying here and being under constant threat of being RIFed. And RIFs are coming.

I don’t trust my leadership enough to not show up 2x a week. Don’t care what my mgr says they have zero say in anything.

I wouldn’t be surprised if I don’t suddenly get my request for part time even if meant a demotion fulfulled.

I told my boss I was taking it and I asked if I had to come into the office with the new demands and he said no once I press the button. 2 days a week is for su-kers! I’m in Tulsa if that helps anyone get the same treatment.

The worst is it you ask for it and don't get accepted. Happened to a few co-workers in 2018. Every single one of them started looking outside the company immediately.

I’m taking it for sure. Strange that it now has become a retention package in my mind. I was debating quitting after I finished up some work a few weeks ago because I hated it so much here. Then VSP out of nowhere is just a big ol retention payment to stay another few months. I’ll dutifully goto the office my twice a week to be less productive and avoid anything else that might get me in trouble.

Does anyone know if everyone who is eligible has received their offer? My wife has not received an offer. She spoke with her boss and was told her group would get their offers next week. Anyone else hearing something similar?

I was going to leave in 2-3 yrs anyway, so I'm going to take it. I'll have a paid year+ to decide if I want to work some more somewhere else or just unfold the beach chair.

This article is as true today as it was in 2018:

Verizon is a big fat terd circling the toilet bowl.

It's tough to get high paid, older workers to leave hence the sweet deal. If you are within 2-3 years of retirement, you take it. If you hate VZ you take it. I suspect that highly skilled, younger workers will opt in since they tend to job hop anyways. I think the people they want to click however will be reluctant. If one has worked for VZ for 20+ years and hasn't moved up bands for a while, they are probably overcompensated.

I have been asking around and so far I have not found a single peer that is interested in taking the Package.

For 30 years I was always worried I would get the Thursday morning on a pay week text from my manager “do you have a min to talk”. No more worrying for me about that call. My new worry is I will not be accepted. Good luck everyone.
