Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Number of People Targeted

The information on the VSP was surprisingly accurate. Does anyone know how many people that the company is targeting for acceptance? The last management VSP accepted ~10k employees and I wanted to see if anyone had real information on this - not speculation but valid insight.

This is unlikely to greatly influence my decision but I do want to know. Thank you

They would love 30%, but doubt they'll get that.

There is an OWBPA report linked on the microsite... I think that's what folks are referring to as a spreadsheet in this discussion.

If they are looking for 30% that will probably line up with the #s that were reported to leave last go around maybe a bit less.

I feel like out of my immediate team I’m the only one that will go. In the larger group of ~30 I’d be surprised if there were more than 2 additional volunteers. My prior team might all volunteer since most are retirement eligible.

I heard they’re hoping for a 30% take rate.

If you're smart then listen to Steve Miller's advice to Billy Joe and Bobby Sue, "Go on take the money and run"

Oddly enough, I was offered the VSP but my job title is not listed under my VP. Other job titles from my team are listed under my VP, but not mine. I wonder what that means.

Operations is going to be reorganized on the union levels to prepare for the new contracts in 2026. Network techs to outside plant will be getting all the work that management was doing. Supervisor title is going away, craft reporting directly to 2nd levels.

The spreadsheet just lists job titles and how many employees by age under VP’s. No names or years of service.

VSP was offered to 30,000+ employees, levels 3-9

This is the correct answer. Only if whole groups volunteer will there potentially be rejections. And then they will use seniority order.

There is no target. Very, very few will be rejected. Additionally they will try to push most people out in the first wave.

The only reason to be denied IMHO is if you have the “Nuclear Codes” or if too many in the same team apply and they have to cut it down.

People keep talking about a spreadsheet. I have a friend who got the offer and was told there is no such document on the VSP microsite. I do know that for RIFs there is an OWBPA report generated if there are people involved in a protected class and it's available on the employee severance portal. But this is not a RIF.

If you received the offer, you can look at the spreadsheet of ALL the people who were targeted.

Our manager had a meeting today. He said they are being really aggressive in operations. Directors, senior managers, and supervisors, overall 20 percent will either VSP or Rif come November. Associates in operations EISP coming soon again 20 percent reduction. Major reorganization coming.
