Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

The Hypocrisy of the Location (Layoff) Strategy

FLASHBACK TO 2019:

"...Scharf, who three years ago left the top spot at San Francisco-based Visa Inc. to rejoin his family on the East Coast, made staying in New York a prerequisite to taking the Wells Fargo job. He’ll run the $2-trillion lender about 3,000 miles away from its San Francisco headquarters and make an already spread-out operating committee even more dispersed.

"The decision to appoint a remote CEO raises questions about how important proximity is in a modern workplace, and whether a management team sprinkled across the country will face more issues enacting a turnaround than one sharing the same hallway. On Scharf’s introductory investor call, the second question was about his location, following only one query on whether the bank needs a broad overhaul.

"'Whether it’s the Wells Fargo job or any other job I had, you spend very little time actually in your office,' Scharf said Friday on the call. 'I don’t think anyone would ever say in the places I’ve worked that I’ve not been present. I think it’s just the opposite.'

"'We can’t help but think that Wells Fargo struggled to attract top talent for this position, and perhaps a compromise on the location of the CEO post was necessary in order to recruit Mr. Scharf,' Citigroup Inc. analyst Keith Horowitz wrote in a note to clients Friday."

The only problem with your "they just do it for the tax breaks!" theory is that WF is selling / ending leases in zillions of buildings right now, even when doing so means they have to pay a city/state penalties for bailing on a tax break agreement. Additionally, if it's all about saving money, you know what would save even more? Getting rid of all the admin buildings and just doing WFH. No lease, no taxes, no landscaping, no repairs, no upgrades, no card readers, no cameras, no janitorial, no utilities, and on and on. That would save far more $ than even the most corrupt corporatist tax break scheme.

Same boat amigo. I'll do what I have to do for now because my family is absolutely dependent on me bringing home checks, but GD Hudson Yards for intentionally making me miserable for absolutely no benefit. They have completely destroyed even the possibility of trust and have ki-led all motivation. When I was trusted to do my job I worked my azz off for WF. Not doing it for these garbage execs with their hypocritical BS.

While going into an empty office building again the other day, I was thinking about all the insane hoops employees are jumping through just to keep their jobs. And the C suite has been surprised that there has not been more attrition, even though they give us more and more hoops to jump through. A huge disconnect is the fact that I actually need my job to keep a roof over my head and feed my family. The C suite cannot relate to this - probably can’t even understand it. They jump from one company to another as it suits them. Meanwhile I have been driving 2 hours 3 days a week for 2 years to go to an empty office to stay off a ‘bad’ list. Yeah I’m looking for another job. Until then, I’ll keep jumping through hoops because my kids need me to pay the bills.

Think how many jobs could have been saved if this expansion wasn't created just last November: https://www.costar.com/article/521836085/wells-fargo-to-expand-in-new-york-citys-hudson-yards-relocating-2300-employees

Cutting jobs of lower cost remote workers so the HQ can get expanded to hold more employees (executives that can afford to live there) in luxury. Average rent in Hudson Yards is currently $4,025 per month

How's the view from under Charlie's desk? He's a POS hypocrite, a failed leader, and a liar. He also can't wait to downsize YOU.

I didn’t realize there were still dolts like you all out there stuck on this remote vs RTO thing. Become a CEO, captain your own ship and do whatever you want.

FFS people, get over it. I bet you all sit around wringing your hands while pizzing and moaning about new USDA guidelines or any other thing you have absolutely no say or control over.

HQ is still technically in San Francisco

Location Strategy was well in the works before Charlie was hired. That dates back to 2015-2016

Just remember how friggin’ long it took the board to find some right(ish) somebody to take the job. As such, he is far from all that. And so is his leadership team. And their gaejin “leadership” teams.

The shareholders and employees now reap what has been sewn.

This tu-d spent a billion dollars of company money to build an ivory tower where he happens to want to live, and another billion to fire thousands of hard working employees for the crime of living where they wanted to. He's the worst kind of hypocrite.

Somewhere between 2019 and today, CS discovered the miracle of hallway collaboration. It's where all the great ideas take shape -- like the idea to distract everyone with an employee appreciation week.

WF HQ was moved to NYC just so Charlie didnt have to relocate. A palace in Hudson Yards was erected. Think about that as this sociopathic Location Strategy is forced on the rank-and-file. Think about the families that will be affected. Think about that children that will see less of their caregivers because of RTO. Its outrageous and disgraceful.
