Profoundly Broken

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/intels-bad-year-worsens-with-analyst-decrying-company-as-profoundly-broken-a05383b6

For a company as investor obsessed as Intel you would think that hearing statements like profoundly broken and suboptimal CEO from investment analysts would make management stop and reflect on their plans and execution... but this is Intel and we have a CEO whose brain is still in the 90s so of course he knows better.

How long before Intel gets dropped from the S&P? I remember INTC price stuck in the low teens in the early 2000s but at least then we got a lot of RSUs to keep compensations levels stable but that's not happening anymore except for the people making the bad decisions.

What is broken, a manager tells his manager and manager's manager that he will deliver everything in a few months. Then nothing happened, except everyone is happy and reported to Ann that everyone is done.

Pat brought in bad leaders since 2021. All leaders in my organization are brought from outside who has zero knowledge. They hired 3x more people to make their position stable. A 300 group now became >1000. All Intel culture is gone. My organization is full of managers telling lies.

This strategy will work and Intel will be reaping the rewards one day from foundry and our products.

One day?
We’re going to need more specifics here before wasting our lives working for years and years.

When?
How?
Why should anyone expect this?

It’s even got a name - the bozo explosion.

Intel is in full supernova.

The company has brought in a lot of people with zero technical skills and zero desire to learn any. These people then bring in their buddies of like nature. They hire one or two actual technical people deep in their chain to do actual work. The output is highly exaggerated so it appears to be a team effort.

No one is working more than 6 hours a day unless they are in fab.

This is just a slow sputtering plane downward.

People are working regularly 10-14 hours a day…..everyone in my group has there resumes out……..more people is not the answer,

Does anyone see a disconnect here?
Why are the rank and file working 10-14 hr days? Yet you claim you don’t need more people.

That’s a fast track to burn out.

It’s also poor management. You need to pace your team for long term success. Seems like bad leaders are still rampant at Intel.

Pat has zero credibility.

Forecasts are missed regularly.
He’s always calling the bottom and nobody believes him anymore.

N2 is ahead of 18A
A16 will be ahead of 14A

It’s not just that we won’t get foundry customers.

It’s a double whammy since our competitors have access to these higher performance TSMC nodes and will kick butt much like AMD is doing to us with Epyc.

Intel will never be ahead due to lack of scale and limited volumes to bring yields in line on acceptable costs and timescales.

It takes time to turn around the ship

3+ years now and the clock is ticking. Exactly how much time is Pat expecting people to wait? 5N4Y, but rewards in 2030?

Let’s get real…

It’s not just about holding dead stock. RSU grants vest over time, so over that unvested time your comp is degraded with the stock even if you sell at vest.

The opportunity cost vs packages at other companies is far too high. It’s like an IQ test. Smart people will obviously leave.

Intel needs to pay above average to retain and develop talent, but we all know that is never going to happen.

Don’t forget the English joker Richard Taylor who eliminated very talented and hard working engineers from Intel because they were Level 4/level 5 RSU’s. The collapse of Intel started then.

Grade 7-9 were on vacation during Covid for 2-3 years, this is the result, they don’t deserve a dime.

It takes time to turn around the ship. Pat has finally weeded out most of the bad leaders. This strategy will work and Intel will be reaping the rewards one day from foundry and our products. On the sad side employees are paying the price. Grade 7-9 who are committed to Intel see stagnated salaries, huge losses in their stock(most have too much allegiance to I tel and hold their stock especially when Pat is so excited about Intel). People are working regularly 10-14 hours a day…..everyone in my group has there resumes out……..more people is not the answer, having strong leaders is what we need. Pat is fine, we just need all the other leaders to make decisions and lead.
