Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Joke

Does this firm even care about its employees? Are they trying to have some competition and do what other banks do when it comes to RTO? Management used to care but now they don’t as they don’t want to hear your opinions. I used to like working here but now I don’t due to lack of leadership changes, people not caring, etc. What’s going on here?

The 401k match is basically a gamble at this point. Having to work until October 1st without getting laid off in order to get the match is ridiculous.

I don't get how the American worker puts up with this cr*p. No more pensions, Social Security has issues - all to make the rich a little richer!

Did they REALLY, @2akm? WE pay for FML insurance, not the bank. And I paid in for years without ever using it and never can now that my "position was eliminated".
But you can't cut our pension, eliminate their HSA contribution, mess with our 401k math, increase our hours from 35/37.5 to 40, etc, etc and claim they increased benefits that hardly anybody uses.

The bereavement, parental leave, mental health, and family care benefits all increased. But let’s be realistic about that. It makes for great PR but what percentage of employees need those benefits on an annual basis? It’s great if/when you do need them but they come at the expense of reduced salary increases and bonuses for the remaining employee base. The executives like to take credit for increasing the benefits but they don’t feel that hit that most of the rest of us do.

We do have some of the best benefits around. Vacation/personal days, parental leave, 401k match, therapy/coaching, bereavement/work from anywhere, etc are all top of the line. Even so, these aren’t why people stay. If the culture, lack of trust in leadership, RTO hammer restrictions, and pay/bonus are lackluster, people will look elsewhere. The benefits are nice additions, but if you’re choosing a job based on benefits, you’re sacrificing day-to-day satisfaction. The benefits only help when you have a comparable offer, and BNY isn’t doing that.

It was hilarious listening to earnings call when they claimed that they increased employee benefits. Hard to believe nobody asked for more details about it.
