I've wanted to quit for a while now but I can't get myself to do it because of layoffs. I feel that if I walk out right now, I'd be 100% leaving severance behind. I've been here for ten years and I'm nearly 50, both of which practically guarantee me a spot when the next major round hits. Or at least that's how it feels. Honestly, I wish I could just get over it and walk away.

2 years of severance for some Legacy T bargained for employees...works for me to stick around a little longer waiting for the notice!
I love the guy who was canned here in 2018 but still hangs out on the layoff boards. Get a life dude.
I was laid-off in 2018 after almost 20 yrs. I was 47 and hired in just before pensions were cut ('99). The pension is what gets you on the short list. With all the re-orgs, I saw it coming, so I put the word out to vendors that I may be looking soon, found some interest, then waited for the pink slip. Took my severance and was employed 2 weeks after leaving. My AVP left before me as she was actually looking to retire. She was able to volunteer for someone else's spot, and got her severance package to leave/retire.

Layoffs are keeping me here too. I am not going to look for a new job but am going to retire. I'd like a little more dough before I go!
Not worth staying for severance. Start looking now and maybe by the time you land an offer it will be your turn. Seriously, I wouldn’t be waiting. The job market is really soft right now. It would likely take 6 months to find something.

I quit at 50 and met the MR 75 only to receive my highly discounted lump sum.
Invested that $750k for 10 yrs & worked an Engineering Job elsewhere where I left - a multi millionaire.
My SBC benefits evaporated or were not a value worth having while the benefits from my other job is great.
There is light at the end of the tunnel at other companies if you have a skill and were not a DEI or EEO hire.
Uber and Lyft driving is in your future.
Maybe talk to you manager and imply that if they ever need to let someone go on your team, to choose you instead of someone else.
I did this 5 months ago…my interest was sent up the chain of command (not sure how far) ….still waiting.
If you think you want to go, start looking sooner than later. Many of us have been looking 6 months or more without much luck. Now is not a great time to look for work unless you know someone looking out for you with another opportunity.
You will never leave unless forced. Stop trolling.
