Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

I feel I'm being laid off soon...

I may may be paranoid or my instincts are kicking in, but I feel like my manager is setting me up for a rif...
Suddenly my directs are in meetings with my manager and I am excluded. I feel like I'm getting 'help' in the guise of a Teflon teammate moving in....

Any advice?

@hhar, you AND your boss should have been fired for allowing files to be stored locally.

@hhar

Well played. I assume that you’re not a Boomer but you certainly do have the Boomer antennae, the intuitive pattern recognition and the can do attitude.

You won’t be back here whining about a hard job search (in a super low unemployment era and a hot hiring market). Heck you’re an honorary boomer all the way.

Yeah, you don’t get revenue. You get a paycheck.

Same thing happened to me. Unlike some, I knew it was coming when I was excluded from meetings, work load was lessening, and I was asked to be the “guinea pig with a deadline” to move my files to a centralized share folder. So when the day came, they asked if I needed anything in my desk to be mailed to me. I told them I cleared everything out 4 weeks ago. Manager was shocked that I was way ahead of her. She thought it was a big secret.

I had to turn in all of my work into a central folder " just for audit reasons", and then my wonderful boss did a Jekyll and Hyde, and began gaslighting me the 3 weeks before. Canceled meetings or wanted to talk about the weather in them. Contradicted me in meetings when others backed me up and thought she was nuts for saying such stupid incorrect things contrary to ANYTHING I said.
Can't believe I didn't see it coming.

The worst, most callous evil people you will ever deal with, however, is HR once you are let go. The treat you like gum on the bottom of their shoes. Nothing was worse than the abusive HR sickos after boss said goodbye. I complained about a few of them specifically.

I’ve never once received yearly goals before October. Human Resources is completely disfuncional.

Probably you were relaxing in your laurels…

Gotta stay sharp politically when you’re a “kept man” and utterly dispensable..

We haven't done our 2024 goals either yet, and my entire team minus a very small handful of people are already in Pune and have been for years. So I don't know exactly what means. May be related to our latest reorg which seems to be too vague to really fully understand at this point. Hard to make goals when you don't really have any clarity on what team you'll be in or how you'll be working down the road.

Nonsensical post. You don’t get revenue. You get a paycheck.

I knew I was getting laid off when people who did a fraction of my revenue got a corporate title promotion. It was a job elimination and they wanted to spread my revenue to other regions. Then a co-worker started to embed themselves into two of my reviews which I protested. I was told they were there only to express their gratitude for me training them. Fishy but I’m done with the company and corporate world.

for those in less favoured locations - consider staying or going depending on region.

  • Stay to play games with the dimwits in Wroclaw /Pune (such fun)
  • Stay to prove Mgmt wrong to move service out of contracted locations
  • Leave for a better work / life balance

Should i be worried if our whole group hasnt done goals yet in 2024 and its May? Is this a sign of outsourcing to Pune.

Start loading your desk drawers with painted personalized bricks … so BNYM pays to ship them to you 😂 This is what I’d wish I’d done.

Request a meeting. Let your manager know how you're feeling. Ask about the meetings held without you and the reason why. Make it hard on your manager by addressing this on your terms and when you want. Be professional. Best of luck to you.

Start taking home all of your personal items - you will likely be marched out and it will take who knows how long to send you any personal items. And if they do send them, expect them to be broken, have pieces missing, and trashed.

Start filling your bag with office supplies so you never have to buy them again.

If you are told you need to train a person to be your "backup" for when you are on vacation, and are pressed by your manager for status reports of that training, you are already on the next lay off list.
