SAE: We Need More Engineers! And Who's Hiring Them?

I'd like to know where all of these unfilled roles are. Seems to me all I see is companies getting rid of technical talent.

Back in the day, an engineering undergraduate degree was a doorway into jobs with some of the highest paying starting salaries. Now I'm hard pressed to recommend anyone go into a technical field.

Does anybody know who the GM or Stellantis Chairmen are ? Why is Billy boy given technical / commercial directions ? He was incompetent when he tried to run Ford, with the Ford Montego and Ford 500, etc. Then Mullaly came to rescue Ford. Ford's family do not know how to run Ford, even Henry II had Lee Iacocca (father of mustang) running the show. Ford family's ego is the worst enemy of Ford itself.
Core engineering / design is done in the US and mfg / clerical jobs can be done anywhere else. If labor is expensive in the US, it is not for Mercedes, VW, Magna, Linamar, ZF, Audi, Kia, Honda, Nissan, Asin-Warner, Subaru, etc. Ford has many positions that can be shipped overseas w/o any problem including vehicle a-s'y. Apple, Nike, etc. found LLC many decades ago.

@1qky loyalty is a two way street. Tell me over the last 20 years if US society has bettered or worsened for the “born here” crowd. Everything has tilted toward a higher producer surplus (meaning companies are overcharging us for everything we buy even though they can live with a lower price). This in turn is transferring more and more wealth to the owners. And you expect me to be loyal to that? Consumer buying power has stagnated/ degraded, basically turning the country into a feudal type governance where he/she who has the biggest pocket book has the final say. This is not why the United States was founded; it was to break away from those feudal monarchies who unreasonably demanded their share even though they did nothing for it. Beginning to sound familiar? And for the LCCs, the rich people gobbling up the money in this country are envious of them. They see that you could pay people nothing and become even richer. Even in the poorest areas of the world, the rich live the same, if not better than the rich in the US. And you still expect me to bow to that horsesh-t?

Native born or not, it is not the key. If anyone still insists on national origin, obviously great names like Igor Sikorsky or Zora Arkus-Duntov don't come across too easily.

The key is the loyalty. Growing up in red China, I cannot be bought by them, regardless of the price, because it is not a matter of money, it is a matter of who I am. I have too much revenge to do. I am sure this relates to many others too.

Yet, all I see is too many native-born US citizens (and a lot of others too) kneeling towards wherever the money comes from, including an Italian American lawyer getting FAW out of sanction list. And I do notice, many people of certain cultural background are easier to be bought than some others, and it is indeed a concern.

“Take the hard classes and get an engineering degree. But if you ask for too much money, we’re going to import someone to take the job.”

It’s a fact that most of the jobs created in the last three years have gone to non-native born people.

This is a national security crisis. A country really needs native born people working on the next generation of we-pons, not people with loyalties to other countries.

Consultants are paid to say/report back what the payer wants. If they don't, there is no more contracts.

SAE link was DEI bs as well. Boston consulting was responsible for the blood bath at Ford the past few years.

There are very few entry level jobs. Just test Linkden. Then look at the entry level job descriptions. Many want 2 or more years experience. So paying entry level for experience. That’s because there not many jobs. Engineering degree no longer guarantees a job upon graduating. LCC is ki-ling US jobs.

Ford has been moving jobs outside of the USA for years and all about the lowest cost employee. Where have people been for all these years to not notice ??? Maybe waiting to retire?

Ford is a top heavy company and many LL6/LL5 I wouldn't have run a "7 Eleven".

It's not a mystery why Ford is a lost cause. With people like Billy and Jimmy running the place with their business and marketing backgrounds they are inept to realize the fact that this is a company based on quality engineering practices. It doesn't matter what color or gender your people are, as long as they are the best and brightest. Ford does not recruit and promote by this criteria. It does no good trying to market and sell broken and recalled s---t.
