Blocked personal email on company laptop

I noticed on Mon 5/6 that personal email web pages are now blocked. Anyone else?

Conversely, we’re required to use our personal device for the company RSA 2-factor. You can’t use mine, but I get to use yours.

They need to update their COBC to adjust for their new policy - for 20+ years they have put in the COBC that as long as it doesn’t interfere with normal business work then some personal use of email/internet was fine on COU’s

With smartphones these days, accessing email/internet on COU’s shouldn't be an issue but truthfully it’s another heavy-handed blanket policy to just tighten their grip on us minions

Why not just check your personal email from your cell phone?

"The CSO proxy performs SSL interception, so the company can see your email and password in plaintext."

They blocked it because they cannot intercept it.

Has anyone tried accessing ATT's web based email? Is it blocked as well?

Funny story. My coworker who was laid off last year called me on his last day. IT cut his access off the day before. He called our boss who gave him my number. He told me he had 30 years at AT&T and never owned a computer or cell phone other than the company ones. He had planned to shop on his last day to get a computer. I spent most of that day searching for deals at local stores and calling him back to see if he knew where the local Staples store was. These are the people who are aghast about losing the access to personal email. Meanwhile, they actually do work. The people who bring in Tablets, Laptops and Gameboys are getting promotions for being present albeit out of sight of their managers watchful eye. (Manager actually at home getting $200K kitchen upgrade for the last few months and brown noser swiping their card daily.)

“There was a guy in NJ a few years ago that was watching p**n on his company laptop.”

I’m all for bending silly rules but this is 100% inappropriate…
That being said, if for some reason you REALLY need to access your personal email accounts use your phone off network (use cellular)
If for some reason that isn’t possible, take a tablet or something with a cellular plan.
Make a hotspot from your phone connect to that.
You have options, I never used my work laptop for personal anyway, and would avoid logging into any personal accounts with my work laptop even if they were ‘work related’ such as GitHub, Jetbrains, other software, etc.
It’s just a bad idea.

The company sees everything. You are on their system.

I know more control and micromanagement su-ks - but why aren’t you all just using your phones or a second laptop or tablet with a cellular plan or a vpn?

I’m so confused by this…I have personal things in my personal email (like other jobs, recruiters, etc) I wouldn’t want T to see anyways.

How am I supposed to fill out fake “Best Place To Work” surveys for HR. It’ll look pretty suspicious if I use my work email.

Accessing personal email from the corporate network is silly. The CSO proxy performs SSL interception, so the company can see your email and password in plaintext.

If you don't think that's a problem, consider the fact that the company just lost 70 million customer records, then think long and hard about whether or not you want to be a statistic yourself.

Security goes both ways. Wear a co---m and don't get any STDs from the company.

Don't forget the cover pages on your TPS report. Lumberg will be all over you for it

Let me ask you something Stankey. How much time would you say you spend on these TPS reports?

Wild to me that anyone would access a personal email, personal account, or social media on a company computer. Seems exceptionally foolish. (Probably also a violation of some type or policy related to company devices)

"use the restrooms only once per day allowed"
The TPS report, or "Toilet Paper Status" report to be added to your monitoring.

All paper metrics bundled together with a red swingline stapler.

In line with RTO, additional controls are being implemented to increase work productivity as network access logs continue to be more closely scrutinized to determine what systems and sites employees are accessing throughout the day. Some employees have been using personal email more than official mail.

Shouldn’t have any effect on dedicated hard working employees. For the rest, well they will have a thousand excuses of why this isn’t fair…

Webmail is blocked by CSO now. Closing an attack vector, there’s no valid business reason to need personal webmail accessible on your company laptop. You can still email your company address from your personal

I can't imagine anyone would do anything personal on a company device. But that's just me. Never have and never will.
