Remote in Workday

Those with medical accommodations (MAs) who are approved to work remotely traditionally have not had "Remote" listed as location (hub location addlress would still appear in Workday).

My understanding is that this was done because:

  1. MA might be for limited time
  2. differentiate between those who work remotely due to distance from hub location (who ARE listed as "Remote")

However, now I'm seing people w/MAs with Workday location listed as "Remote". Why the change? How will it be differentiated from those who work remotely due to being 40+ miles from hub?

I'm wondering how this will impact layoff decisioning, too.

Have an approved temporary medical accommodation but my workday always showed my assigned office which is 40+ miles away from my home. Didn’t know the remote option for those 40+ miles from the office still existed.

It’s too bad that many managers last year were aloof or didn’t care about their team due to the impending location strategy. It was so obvious what was going to happen. Last year I asked my team members who wanted a package and who wanted to stay but commute. In the latter case I switched them from remote to hybrid before the location strategy was formally announced. This wasn’t hard to do. I’m sorry to those who are now sc--wed by their manager’s inaction.

They knew what they were doing during remapping. Some people who are remote and within 40 miles to a hub were told they would be let go over the past two weeks. There are a lot of people who live in SC and drive to CLT daily for this bank because there are multiple cities in SC that are 30 miles or less to CLT. No offer to them to stay on and return as hybrid.

They changed that quite awhile ago. Used to list the nearest Hub with a mail drop, then changed all to remote.

I have medical accommodation for 100% remote work and I am NOT "Remote" in Workday. Same explanation other person mentioned.

Are they targeting people with approved medical accommodations in hubs to be laid off?

It's not a glitch being fixed. They are officially changing it in Workday, so there's no longer a differentiation between those with medical accommodations for 100% remote work and those without MA and 100%.remote due to distance from hub. It's strategic, as OP suspected.

Yup. Administration just fixing the glitch due to all the locations being defined and RTO flags as mentioned.

Always had remote. Maybe your group is just catching up with the times. They probably kept getting flagged for RTO and are trying to fix it.
