Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Accrued PTO not paid out?

Is accrued PTO not paid out upon departure anymore? But PTO that had been used but not accrued is subject to repayment? Seems like the worst of both worlds on the employee end. Would be better off switching to unlimited PTO at this rate.

Found out that it is legal in my state not to pay unused accrued PTO.

Jumping out and interviewing is always the way to go in an inflationary and low unemployment era. Suggest deep self examination to determine the reasons why you remain here.

@ltvm, because it requires a lot of work and costs money to find another job.
Wouldn't it be easier to hold our current employer to ethical values they claim to represent?

@n-g

They (the Bank) changed the policy. And they did not do it in secret. They announced it. It is your choice to accept and stay - for whatever binding reasons you may personally have - or leave if that is unacceptable.

If the environment is toxic and you do not believe in the firm then why stay? You had your big openings during and after covid hiring frenzy. I saw couple of my colleagues leave with nearly 100% raise.

Who stopped you? Why are you on a mission to change the firm when you 'hate' it so much. End of the day, it is a a job and you have your personal reasons for the firm to survive or not survive.

Any I do not believe you "not recommending" has stopped the flow of applicants (you can brand them in any colorful language) and their desire to work at the bank.

It is the recruiter's market. And my prediction is it is going to get worse. I wish I am wrong.

If your state requires it, they have to pay you out PTO. Massachusetts has that written into law for example

Made it cheaper for them to fire people along with the change to the 401k match last year. Company just keeps getting worse.

They changed the policy in 2024 so you don't get paid out your accrued vacation when you are out the door. BNY Mellon is garbage, I wouldn’t wish my worst enemy to get a job at the company. Long hours, sh-t pay, thankless overtime, cr-ppy bonuses, cr-ppy raises that dont outpace inflation.

This is correct. Change was made late 2023/early 2024. It’s insulting.
