Position Title Comparisons

How high up on the food chain is an Executive Director at Wells Fargo versus other places like JPMC, BOA, or Goldman?

Goldman Sachs was a flat organization, they didn't have many layers of job titles. Our team had weekly lunch meetings with the head of the division around a small table. We discussed technical analysis and attribution analysis of our investment products' performance relative to the market benchmarks, etc.

On the other hand, Wells Fargo has too many layers of corporate and functional titles in a huge hierarchical pyramid. When we meet with the head of the divisions, it will be a huge quarterly townhall meeting, discussing DEI topics, recreational topics, social activities, etc. A very little time spared to discuss business topics. What do these "leaders" do everyday? Don't worry about senior executive titles. We have way too many executives and managers who do nothing and just wasting the company's money every day. They need to go.

Exec Director = SVP at BOA. Difference is your role dictates your officer title, versus at BOA, you can get a title promotion from VP to SVP and not have changed jobs.

Haha. An Executive Director is a corporate title not a job title. I know P4 and p5’s who are ED’s and I know M3s who are ED’s. Also know P4’s and P5’s who aren’t ED’s. Basically if you are an Executive Director and don’t direct anyone (have people reporting to you directly) then you know it’s just a ha$$nd job title. Stroke stroke! Dotted line reports get a reach around and will be gone soon. Trust me.

I literally laughed out loud when I saw that I was an executive director. My whole team is full of EDs. Means nothing and makes it harder to find lateral positions.

ED at WF is comparable to Citi, BoA, and JP in terms of expectations, base salary compensation, and years of tenure. Goldman doesn't have ED titles (VP/ED is the same there).

here at wells most executive directors are high level individual contributors level p5 or above. hierarchically they could be any number of levels from Charlie depending on their orgs structure. in my world they tend to be 4 to 5 levels below. officer titles here aren't earn and don't mean anything. other companies executive directors are leading large orgs and are actual executives.
