Is it possible to change your choice?

Sadly I accepted. I want to switch to Decline and get out. Anyone able to do that? What was the procedure?

People from wave 1 are still employed in my org and haven’t moved. Basically just being like ‘yeah sure Jan, I’m moving’ so don’t know how true this is for all orgs.

Under the amended law in 2023, employers are required to pay all terminated employees severance of one week of pay for each year of employment even if they provide the full requirement of 90 days' notice. If an employer fails to give a full 90 days' notice, they must pay an additional four weeks of pay to the employee.Jan 24, 2024

It won't be up to your boss, or even his or her boss.

Honestly, not in wave 2 so I don't know the dates. But here's what I would do. I am normally a very ethical person, but these are abnormal times. Take your severance now. That is, do the minimum work -basically whatever you feel like doing, then let them terminate you for not moving. You will get unemployment, in most states, if your "destination" is greater than 50 miles away. So at least there is that. But just consider now and the time that they fire you your severance. Doing this depends on how much you can actually stomach the charade. T should just offer anyone severance who won't/can't move when the move involves a certain distance. That's what normal companies do for salaried employees. It's really unreasonable, in my view, for the company to put this "offer" on people. You don't know how your life might change between when they give you the "offer" and when it's time to actually execute. Or you may find it difficult to actually make the move, even if you said you would, due to the complexities of the current economy, selling house, school issues, spousal issues, etc. etc. And with NO relocation help. So T is asking people to play chicken with this entire offer thing, and it's unethical of them. So give it right back to them, if you can stomach it. Best of luck.

If you don’t plan to ever work at T again and are already in the process of finding another job and/or going to be laid off anyways without lying, then a COBC violation has no teeth what so ever.

The worse they can do is complain on your referral or something but with how RTO is going most directors will back their employees on the referrals anyway, I’ve even heard directors tell employees to just say they’ll move to drag it out.

No one is happy with what’s going on, all the way down.

COBC violation is a joke if you’re already making an exit and don’t want to work here again, and why would you after what they’ve done.

Not allowed to work at T again? Don’t threaten me with a good time.

Just lie.
Drag it out while looking for a job locally.
Then when you find something either become over employed and roll both jobs at the same time for as long as you can, or just tell them ‘hey another better opportunity locally came a long’ and quit.

You’ll probably end up with more $ than you would if you got severance.
Just don’t play by their rules, the C-suite doesn’t, why should you?

You’re probably SOL to get severance since you’re not on the layoff calendar. Try asking your boss if you can be put onto the list or take someone’s place. Don’t believe them if they act like they don’t have a list of heads scheduled by month to be axed.

Otherwise just put in your 2 weeks like normal. I declined the move offer but honestly if I were you I’d just stay put and see how long you get away with it. If they come down hard put in 2 weeks notice and take the next 2 weeks off on PTO.

Had someone I know say they would move and then when the time came they wanted to change to no. They didn’t get severance. You can ask your boss, but I think you’re hosed.

Best when asked, just tell them no. Otherwise you will get no severance. Not to mention the more people that say no, the more likely they will walk it back.

The procedure is you are choosing to quit just like anyone else. I assume you want the severance but I dont see that working out for you. This may not be your case, but for others be warned dont say you are going to move out of fear, if you dont want to move just say no and start looking for your next opportunity

I mean, if you told them you’d relocate and now you have thought better of it, just don’t do it. No one is forcing you to. Might impact your severance is all, assuming they do lay you off. Big whoop.
