Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

How does it work to transfer to different BU? Who can stop it

So my manager is checked out and I end up picking up a lot of the work. We’re in a toxic situation where he both needs me but also bad mouths me in performance reviews subtly, claiming that he’s super involved and I need to be more independent. Pretty pleasant when meeting with him. I want to transfer departments —- can he block me? I feel he won’t let me go if he can influence it.

Don’t transfer just apply for job postings internally and interview. Then you don’t work for them anymore

I just told my manager today about an offer.i had nothing to say until I knew. I didn't want thier attitude towards me change. I am getting away from a toxic environment as well. I did a lateral for my mental health.

You should go on the career hub and consult with a recruiter. They will give you advice. You do not have to let your manager know you’re interviewing until you are about to get an offer letter.

Multiple people left my team without letting the toxic team lead know they were looking. In one case the team lead did try to badmouth the employee to their new manager but it didn’t sabotage the transfer. I think the key is to keep it discreet until you know they want to make you an offer. Have I done it? No, but know several ppl who have.

He can and most likely will. They will ask him for input and he’ll bad mouth you. Seen it happen as well as heard it when hiring from within Fidelity. Might be best to be open with hiring manager about it and get some other team members to vouch for you.

Omg a similar thing is happening to a friend. And yes the manager did block his transfer. Low key sabotaged it and denies it.
