Thread regarding JPMorgan Chase & Co. layoffs

Spice Heaven

This company will hurt your career and mental health. In technology there is no diversity, equity, and inclusion. In tech centers all you have to do is look around the floor. If you are not the right kind of spice you are automatically excluded and abused. For many years in our team's daily stand up meeting it is a constant reminder that I don't belong here. My team speaks in their own language on zoom and in person to exclude me from the conversations. Especially when they are brain storming. In the end all the hard work goes to me while they go play ping pong. At the end of the year they get raises and promotions. I get nothing. The manager, also one of them, rewards them. They protect their own. This is life at JPMC. It's not the salt, pepper, or saffron who are discriminating.

Olympic is a place for ephemeral and down market players with games as if kids are playing- Running, jumping, hanging etc are childish things.
We player cricket, king of all games which has multiple skills involved. So please shut up now.

It's NOT Indian but only one language group "Telugu" from India which only wants to hire it's OWN people and promote it's OWN people. Even rest of Indians are like aliens to them.

Didn’t know that such racist and incompetent people work at Chase who value race and nationality more than professional work! If you were so good you would too be working there, but you didn’t live upto technical competency. In the US, the land of liberty and Justice for all, this is what it means!

You guys do realize when world polls are taken about which is the most racist/discriminatory country in the world, India is number 1 right..? As a fellow Indian, I can see your guys frustration - honestly I feel as though if you guys learn the culture or try to "fit in" in a sense, then you would probably have a better chance. If not, then I would say look for a new job, I do not feel anyone should have to go through these things during work.

Why don't these spices move back to their sh*thole country?
They come here and act all entitled discriminating other races just because the whole building is 99% indians.
What a joke and yet they don't want to go back to India

Worked here few years. I was the pepper on team. There was one salt. Manager and everyone else turmeric. I was always left out and discriminated. They would talk in their language too. Most times I had to get details from salt. Turmerics left me clueless so they can have someone to blame… and they did.

I left during pandemic to a faang company. Got promotion 2023. It’s not worth it to stay. You deserve better.

People here act like corporate favoritism is invented by minority groups. Time to wake up! It has existed since the dawn of time. This is no different than being in the same tennis club as the boss. Being close with management has its benefits whether or not the management is a minority. Either work hard and show your worth or leave, there's nothing out of the ordinary here that has not existed before...

Last year I had a family medical emergency and was out for a week. Turmeric manager and team mates were not compassionate or understanding. I got he-l for being out a week while turmeric team mates swipe in and leave at lunch. I work full days in office. No one picked up my work while I was out and when I came back I was under heavy pressure to get everything done. I always pick up my phone however turmeric team mates never pick up when I call them. I write good notes and how to’s for the team. Strange I got dinged in team work and communication during my annual review. I updated my resume but no new job offer yet. If turmeric manager reading this, F U! Yes you are my manager, yes you make more money than me, yes you abuse me, and yes I can kick your a**!

OP, you have to move to different teams
They're setting you up for failure by being exclusive.
This is to prepare you for rif
I've been in your shoes and they purposely do that to groom non Indians for RIF
My team kept hiring indians and even indian consultants that didn't know sh-t.
Then I was slowly excluded so that I can't do my tasks properly.
I wouldn't be surprised if JPMC will go down the toilet in a few years time.
They kept speaking their own language and was very uncomfortable with it.
No fun at chase, too many fked up turmerics!!

no diversity at all, and I feel like working in India
i've never been with a good indian manager; they were all really political
hope they move back to their own country for good

Are we in the same team?
Unfortunately I left due to too many turmeric and it didn't help either cause I wasn't Caucasian.
Mgr spoke telugu in front of me to my teammates almost everyday for 2 months
I was cornered and bullied also from the Indian team
Skip was in india, Ed was also indian and then they hired a real bootlicker indian Vp as our Mgr so I quickly knew this was a red flag
I knew they wanted me out
Luckily I found a better job

There are a lot of indians and they are always inviting.

Every company I've worked for Indians have always been good to me.

I legit went on lunch at my previous company and I was the only Non Indian.

Do I care if they speak their native language? No.

I only care when I'm involved.
if it's whatever then it doesn't matter.

I don't play the political game
so all these promotions never really matter to me. I don't like to go into management so as long as I get the bonus I'm good.

I enjoy coding as a job and a hobby.
so as long as I get to do that.

I'm happy.

It's also about perspective you see what you want to see.

I never cared so I never saw.

I love how we are all so afraid even on an anonymous forum of naming the group, what is everyone talking about, Indians?

I have been in same situation at JP. One thing i have noticed in general though is some Turmerics who have studied in US or have been to good universities are inclusive and are good folks to have conversations with. They make sure that they don't talk in native language when you are part of group conversations.

It’s mostly turmerics from the southern(Telugu) region who have this mentality of just being in their own group and supporting each other just among themselves, including Managers. They prefer hiring and promoting “their own”.

Thats why I left the firm after 2 years.

I was in the same boat. My team was all turmerics except for me and one other person. The other person quit and they gave 100% that person’s work to me. After weeks of being overwhelmed I started pushing back more work. That when things went downhill and they started playing mind games with me. I found a new job at one of the major hospitals and been happier. Better team and better people than JPMC. Update your resume and look for a new job.

In same situation someone else on the team called hr involved me I was like leave me out of it, they left the other quit now I’m left to deal with it .

And it’s not going very well as the treatment has worsened. 👀 everywhere to find anything open.

I understand your issue as many managers allow staff to speak their native tongue, thus excluding others. This happens most when the manager is of the same ethnicity as the majority of the. Is it right? no. Does it add to exclusion? Yes Can you do anything about it? It looks like you can't, HR talks the talks that include the word inclusive yet it stays away from certain groups/areas in the Bank that don't talk the talk.

Be careful you don't complain to HR as it will almost certainly get you fired/RIF'd

You gotta be diverse and inclusive yourself, move out of your bubble, learn a new language and be a part of the crowd! (I am being sarcastic)

The most hilarious thing is when you bring in minority and diverse groups they generally band together and favor each other over other groups, especially if that person is the majority. But hey, its what we all wanted right?

I have seen that happen before. Write your resume and move internally or externally. This is your best option.

I’m in similar position. They force me to work the busiest on call weeks. They always make me responsible for DR test weekends with no help. They punish me when DR tests go wrong but never do anything to help prep or fix issues. They dump stuff on me to when I try to take comp time.
