I was on Wall St many moons ago in a meeting with Chemical Bank folks and several of the people said they had to leave for a quick meeting in the auditorium. Everyone in the auditorium was told they were let go and had to turn in their badges and exit the building immediately. Everyone elsewhere in the building was safe. Working for a smaller bank at the time I had never seen that. March forward 12 years and I'm standing on the stage in Buffalo, NY and our executive is telling everyone in the auditorium that were were closing every thing they had including branches. We bought them for their customers. It's been happening for my entire 40 year career. I only ever worked for one bank that asked for volunteers, we had 8 branches at the time. Oh and Friday is my last day at WF. Couldn't keep waiting for the layoff package.

oh please.

be happy with what you get.

back in 1994, the 'flag day' layoff, was just two weeks of severance and that was it. all the remaining employees were sent home that day so as to not witness the 'walk of shame' to pack up your stuff in a provided box.
and that WAS Norwest, a superior company.
