By the time planning permission is applied for and the usual suspects object and appeal etc.; another factory start would be at least a couple of years away. There would be a careful bit of public and government relations to contend with in terms of all the infrastructural needs. Irish Times reported that the scenario is that Intel Ireland is putting another name on the property deeds to raise a bit of cash for other announced developments - Germany, Israel, France etc. Its quite confusing on what the actual news is. In Ireland we're finding it tough to retain employees. There is a skittish atmosphere here among staff.
That article seems really misleading. My understanding is this is not growth or expansion, they are selling a stake as they can't fund their strategy via traditional routes. Bringing in private equity vultures is not a good sign, we obviously can't raise money from our shares and we don't have the internal budget to spend as it would furter impact our share price. This is a hail mary - not a good news. I think it will happen, but PE will want a serious pound of flesh. Am I wrong in having this view - is there a more positive interpretation I'm not seeing?
Apparently there is an employee retention team to look into why there’s such a high turnover of people, obviously with no results.
They need a TEAM for this?
Typical Intel id--tic behavior.
Low pay
Low growth
Difficult to get promoted
Uncertain financial future
Game of thrones backstabbing culture
Better compensation at competitors
Rampant nepotism
And they need a team to figure this out.
Jesus Christ.

Morale is at the lowest I’ve ever seen and I’m there since 2000.
Tech jobs are no longer well paid, we are way behind inflation, we would need 20% to bring us back to the spending power we had before covid.
@wsg
Not just Metals or F34
Myself & almost half of my peer techs (15+ years) are discussing leaving also.
Culture is shocking, pay is lacking & way behind inflation, Irish management have zero clue & just push on with blind ignorance. Skip level meetings are a show just to check a box. They don't listen to any feedback.
I have just seen this on the news. What a complete load of cr-p. Metals is now in task force to "investigate" the mass amount of people leaving. Everyone is leaving and it is falling apart. Another senior tech is leaving at the end of the month. There will be nobody of experience left on that team.
There is zero prospect of this alleged expansion. The best that could happen is that they put some tools in the 7presently empty, MOD2 of fab 34.
It is another example of spin to try and get more handouts.
No, sounds like another private equity buy in for fab funding
